thank you for your suggestions veronica

i tried winamp in the past, it has several defects, there is no equalizer in the free version and it is weird when creating playlists, it is very nice but considering that is not a free app, i wouldn't depend on it

about photoshop express, what is capable to do?  does it require a internet connection? it seems that the direct competitor would be cameramx

i'm still trying to find a nice month calendar to use on a 3" screen, any recommendations?

tschommer: none of the guides i tried worked for this device(including the link you posted that i eventually found by myself  :D )

eventually i had to fight with the bootloader, the drivers required and the dlls that i didn't had and then just downloaded a img that was already rooted from one of the xda pages and used flashtool to dump it by using the fastboot option instead the flashmode

avoiding to do the extra 3 steps required to gain root access that required to install a previous firmware .42(200mb file) that could be rooted, root it and finally update it to .62 or .69 to retain root privileges on the updated phone

interestingly the phone still sees the firmware as .62 but supposedly i installed .69 boot.img according to the website

the result still is the same, system works rooted and allowed me to remove dumb apps like office suite viewer and other similar crap that came with the phone and asked to be updated each week or so

looking foward to do this with a samsung phone using the modified odin tool(i think it is called that way) because flashtool for sony is good but weird and a bit disordered

thanks for your time and help, even when the info was disordered, i managed to gain root access and retain the nice sony interface  :D

Something I have discovered on Android.

Using Dropbox on Android and on PCLOS, I use Sunbird for a calendar, so, on PCLOS, I exported my calendar to an ics file, moved it into Dropbox, then subscribed to it with Sunbird.

Now my calendar is available on any device I have with Dropbox.  Unfortunately, none of the Android calendars will let you subscribe to a local ics file (the one in Dropbox).

So, then I discovered ICSSync:

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=icssync&c=apps

An Android app that automatically and periodically syncs the Android calendar with whatever you want, including that ics file in Dropbox!  Voila - calendar everywhere!  And no fiddling around with google calendar...

Now if there was just an equivalent for iOS (on my iPhone), I'd be a happy camper.

I'm searching for a centralized and multiplatform note-taking app, but I cant found it yet:
- Tomboy (works fine in PCLOS and Windows, and synced through Dropbox. Not in Android)
- Evernote (works fine in Windows and Android. But Nevernote uses too much RAM in my PCLOS)
- Fetchnotes (works good in Android, sucks in Windows, and I dont tried it in PCLOS yet)

My favorite was Tomboy 'cause until last year i can sync all (windows, pclos, android) throught UbuntuOne, but they don't support Note-syncing anymore.

Victor Chebyshev - Kaspersky Lab Expert -Posted February 2013

Mobile attacks! ("Superclean" application and its twin "DroidCleaner" Malware

Users of inexpensive Android smartphones typically look for ways to accelerate their devices, for example, by freeing up memory. Demand for software that makes smartphones work a little faster creates supply, some of which happens to be malicious. In addition to legitimate applications, apps that only pretend to clean up the system have appeared on Google Play.

We have come across PC malware that infects mobile devices before. However, in this case it’s the other way round: an app that runs on a mobile device (a smartphone) is designed to infect PCs.

https://www.securelist.com/en/blog/805/Mobile_attacks

and heise Security - 04 February 2013,

Android malware carries Windows snooping app

Kaspersky is reporting on malware found in the Google Play store that is loaded with more than just Android malware. The trick in this case is to covert the smartphone into a version of a rather traditional vector for PC malware.

The "Superclean" application and its twin "DroidCleaner" offer themselves as phone clean-up applications which will boost your smartphone's performance by clearing out old data. All the "cleaners" apparently do when run is show all the running services and then step through restarting all the applications on the phone.

But behind the scenes it is a different story: the app moves on to quietly download three files and save them as "autorun.inf", "folder.ico" and "svchosts.exe" in the root directory of the SD card. Now the phone is ready to infect any PC that it is plugged into when in USB drive emulation mode – if, of course, it still autoruns removable media, and will trigger the running of "svchosts.exe". In current versions of Windows though, autorun is disabled so the attack should only be a threat to users running older unpatched operating system versions.

definitively android is the new windows  :-\

"The apps are supposed to free up memory in Android, but instead does an extensive feature set of other harmful things. Here’s a list:
Sends SMS messages
Enables WiFi
Gathers information from the device
Opens random links in the browser
Uploads the entire content of your SD card
Uploads arbitrary files and folders to the master’s server
Uploads all of your SMS messages
Deletes all of your SMS messages
Uploads all of your contacts, photos, and coordinates to the master

Once the “cleaner” app is installed and running, it begins listing processes on your device and restarts them in the foreground to make it appear as if it’s really “cleaning” your device. However, in the background, the app downloads three files (autorun.inf, folder.ico, and svchosts.exe) to the root of your SD card.

When you connect your smartphone to your Windows computer, the SVhosts.exe file (Backdoor.MSIL.Ssucl.a) will automatically execute itself onto your PC. It then takes control of your microphone and records you. It encrypts those recordings and sends them back to the master."

http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2013/02/this-android-malware-will-install-a-trojan-onto-your-pc-and-record-you-through-your-microphone/

now, since this post is meant to recommend good apps and not to put people in panic, can you recommend us a good security app for android menotu?

i just had a "i'm so stupid" moment, one from many but this one was special

after rooting the phone i installed a couple of root apps, one of them was a sd cleaner, a system manager and a cpu tuner

after using them for a while system became terribly slow, slow as in a pentium mmx trying to play a bluray disc

i was sure i installed one of those evil apps menotu mentioned, restart, uninstall and edit things didn't helped

finally i had a bright moment(one of the few i have each year) and decided to verify cpu settings on the cpu manager app

i forced power governor to powersave, this with another option made the cpu to run at 122mhz, the lowest speed possible, when i changed to ondemand, things came back to normal

the app with this great capabilities is no-frills cpu governor, really useful and helps to save battery, the lowest speed before was 368 or 245mhz to keep battery and performance but my changes made things incredibly slow and power conservative  ;D

thank you menotu for that moment of panic

My 2 options for file transfer PCLOS <-> Android (ASUS tablet)...

1. Access from Android in Total Commander: Install (in Android) Total Commander + FTP Plugin for Total Commander.
A highly customizable twin-panel filebrowser + in PCC > FTP configuration in PCLOS shows your /home folder of your PCLOS computer and you can transfer files between the two devices in Total Commandr

2. Access from PCLOS in Dolphin/Krusader:  Install (in Android) Ftp Server.
In Ftp Server you can set your preferred username and password.
Together with
Code: [Select]
ftp://username@ip.address.android.device:2221/ in Dolphin/Krusader shows the content of the tablet.

Hi uT6, sorry for delay in replying, ben so busy
Business Calandar is good but recently on one device I have had a trouble in that it won't sync which I think is a google issue as I use the google calandar service.
Photoshop express is good for simple stuff last time I used it. I tend to edit on my main machine.
cheers

What's wrong with using whatever editor is available and just keep the notes in Dropbox?
