Need help with ATI Xpress 200m Card
« on: August 15, 2012, 10:07:45 PM »
I dug out my old laptop and wanted to get the current version of PCLOS up on it. Everything is fine except for the graphics card which defaults to some radeon card I've never heard of. Tried to install a driver from AMD's site but think there is something about my current x.org version not being supported (i think is the problem). Heard there is a new 12.8 or somesuch driver/installer but haven't found a download of it anywhere. Anyone have any ideas? In the past I was able to install fglrx version through hardware manager (for example the one ubuntu came with) and get graphics up no prob. Thanks in advance.

ati dropped support for this card some years ago(3 or 4) so no driver for linux will work, no legacy driver will work either, it is abandoned hardware

the only driver that could work is ati fglrx x1950 and earlier in pclinux control center and since this is a non cooperative video card, it might not work for you, vesa is another option for you

Thanks for the info that actually helps quite a bit. Going to try installing an older Ubuntu version on it with older x.org and sources say that may work.

yes, that is possible but older distro means older apps and security problems also
