How to put Teamviewer back on menu? <SOLVED>
« on: August 17, 2012, 10:07:25 AM »
Previously I had problems with TeamViewer not working.  In my efforts to uninstall everything in order to see if I could correct the problem, I deleted the menu entry. So after the KDE upgrade I decided to reinstall TeamViewer and much to my surprise it now functions as it should.  But I find that the menu entry was not restored.  So my question How do I 'properly' put it back?  I know how to edit the menu entries but don't know the proper way to restore it.  My efforts so far seem to be incomplete.  Can anyone enlighten me?  ??? ???

I installed it here for the first time to see what happens ....  there is an entry in the Internet section for Teamviewer7.

Check that you have the following file

/usr/share/applications/teamviewer-teamviewer7.desktop

Have you been updating the install regularly?
Is it up to date?
Do you get an error message from Synaptic if you Reload?

If "Yes" to all three above the following applies ....

An update to the "Sections" part of the repository has been posted and many threads exist on the forum concerning it.

Essentially the section called  kde4   must be changed to  kde
No other change in necessary or desired.

Then Reload and Mark All Upgrades ....  apt-sources-list-1.0.1 should be one package which updates to version 1.0.2.
If it is not installed then please install it.

Apply all upgrades and then search for Teamviewer and install it.

That should do it.

Just looked and I do have that file.  Do I just create a new menu entry and point it at that file?

Update:  I opened that file in kwrite and found where the executable file resides and was able to reconstruct the entry in the menu.

Thanks for your help,

If you are using KDE the presence of that file *should* ensure you get a menu listing for Teamviewer.

You might have to log out and in ......  or reboot because you had a bad install previously.

Else you can use the info in that file to create a menu entry yourself.
