This morning I ran some updates via PASS and noticed Gimp being updated. I checked the PASS folders and saw GIMP in Updates. I also saw VLC 2.01.  See below

The http://ftp.nluug.nl.. mirror is up to date to 17.8.2012 but has them still in Testing.

I find this confusing.

Ibiblio is in the US. Nluug is in the Netherlands, so don't forget there is a time difference. A day begins several hours earlier in Europe than in the US, so that needs to be taken into account when comparing update times.

PASS is also up to a week or two ahead of ibiblio as that's the reward you get for your donation.

Ok I understand that. But why are the VLC plugins of version 1.1.13 not removed if VLC 2.01 is an official update?

I'm trying to figure out if and how VLC 2.01 could play media from my Olive music server. The VLC 1.1.13 with the upnp plugin found my server but did not show any content. VLC 2.01 seems to be missing a upnp link feature.

I use now XBMC media center and that is working fine, so It is not real problem.  I like VLC though, and it would be nice if I could use it to play from the server.

I will mark this post as answered, because the VLC 2.0+ upnp quetsion is a different issue

Refreshed synaptic using the heanet.ie mirror and Gimp 2.8 is there.
Updated everything and the only snag was the old menu entry which still pointed to a non-existent gimp-2.6 Changed that and all was fine.

Knowing gimp of old I took the precaution of renaming my home .gimp-2.6 folder so the new gimp made a new one without importing any of the old 'baggage'. An opportunity for clearing out some of the junk.

The update to KDE 4.8.3 also went reasonably smoothly a couple of days ago. Had to uninstall a package first (kipi-plugins whatever that is) then all was ok.

Big thanks to all the maintainers and packagers.

I believe that at the moment, Neal is leaving some downgrade versions like VLC 1.1.12 and GIMP 2.6 so if users decide they didn't want VLC 2.x or GIMP 2.8, they can always use the previous version. But don't take my word for it and wait for Neal to clarify.
