Hi Abraxas,
"From memory it ran for about 3 hours" to back up your system using the live cd.
I back up my system with clonezilla (and have recovered it several times, needed to several times with the KDEupdate because of an argument with kmail2)
I back up my personal files twice a week with rsync via a cron job (plenty of front ends)
OK Abraxas, game on. I really should back up my system right now. I will use clonezilla, beginner options, save everything to sdb5, save image of system on sda1
(and for extra slowness check source partition and check image saved)
Time is 6:05, rebooting now.....
Time is 6:16, I am back and sda1 is backed up and all is good.
Note I did it the slow way, checked partition and image.
I swear by clonezilla, others swear by the livecd back up, and O-P does it his own way. You have choice.
To make PCLOS not just boring but tediously boring backing up your system is a must.
ps Hi J18, very funny. No I cannot boot it from a live cd. When my system goes kraanggg or I have an argument with it (like with kmail2), I have recovered it. Done it on my main machine several times, my old kde3.5 system at least twice (old disk threw up a ton of errors and would not boot), and on my mini itx box once, something caused it indigestion. For me clonezilla is the way to go.
Also each image takes up 2GB so I have a series of them.
When I did the live cd I think it took up 4GB and I only had cdroms at the time.
Each to their own. Backing up your system is a must though.
(If ever clonezilla fails I have my personal files and just need to install a system and get it back as I like it)
