Thinking enlightenment needs TLC in order to be updated properly (might be why I don't see it on the downloads page anymore). Wondering if anyone here might be able to guide me thought the steps to get this all updated. I have already re-installed fresh and ready to follow directions.
You can only update that install by manually applying some RPMs. Then you have to jump through a few more hoops. It isn't worth the effort to try to upgrade from the iso you installed from. It is
worth the effort to install e17 from the repos to a recent iso.
Grab the LXDE mini iso from one of the links on this page
. Install it in the same disk space where you previously installed the older e17. Immediately after booting up and getting the post installation done, open Synaptic. Click Reload. DO NOT UPDATE
. Find apt-sources-list
package and install only that. After that one package
has been installed, click Reload again. Then click Mark All Upgrades. Then click Apply.
After all the package updates have been installed, REBOOT. Start Synaptic again and check for updates, for good measure. If there are more updates, apply them. After you are completely updated, click Search. Enter task-enlightenment
in the search box. Mark it for installation, along with all the other package dependencies. Next, do a search for e17
. There will be, I think, 3 agust theme packages listed. Mark them all. They are excellent. Mark any modules you may want. It will not hurt to mark everything you see. Next, do a search for enlightenment
. Same procedure, mark everything you want. After selecting all the packages, click Apply.
After all packages have been installed, log out. You do not need to reboot. At the login screen, click Session. Change it to enlightenment. After logging in with your username and password, the e17 first time setup will run. Just answer the questions presented on the screen. Any questions about customizing or configuring, check the MiniMe/e17/Openbox section of the forum
, as well as Configuration e17 PCLinuxOS
topic in Tips and Tricks section. The configuration topic has a lot of tips from agust, the man who created all those beautiful themes. If you are still stumped, post in the MiniMe/e17/Openbox section of the forum.
