The KDE4 section of the repository has been removed.

When all the mirrors have synced with the main repository then it will be gone everywhere.

In the meantime there are likely mirrors which still contain the KDE4 section.

Syncing of all mirrors takes time, and is not within the control of PCLOS.

Okay, so if KDE4 is gone, and I'm still running 4.6.5, switching to KDE sounds like the next update will move me up to the officially released KDE 4.8...correct?  Sounds like there's no need for Pinoc's script.

The thing that all of you are missing is your settings in synaptic will not change automatically. You have to change the settings manually. If you don't change the settings in sections in repo select in synaptic on your computers then you will not be able to update or install anymore packages from the repo. What I have been saying has nothing to do with the mirrors syncing. When the distro switched from kde 3.X to 4.X we had to go in and change the setting from kde to kde4 now we have to go back in change it back from kde4 to kde. Are all of you admins and testers completely missing what I am saying? Regardless what mirror is being used the setting has to be changed each computer or synaptic will not work even if all the mirrors are in sync.

Yes you can set it manually. I did and updated two computers with no problem. The person who started this thread has also.

You have to change the settings manually.

That is something I am in doubt about because I believe I read that an update to apt-source list would do that automatically ........  but because I have long ago updated to 4.8.3 and do not have that package installed I cannot comment from personal experience.

As PASS users were told to change kde4 to kde manually and then update, then it is reasonable to suppose that this route will work for everybody.

If that script doesn't get loaded to the computer first and executed before synaptic tries to access a mirror that is already in sync with the main server then it will not work. Synaptic will complain and not work. That is what happened to me last night. Changing it manually is the only sure way to get it done. Everyone had to do it that way a few years ago when it went the other way.

Wel, just as before, I'm getting broken packages.  so, looks like I'l run Pinoc's script.  And if that doesn't work, It's a new install.

stealth,

I'm not sure why you believe the sources.list has to be manually modified. For me, yesterday's updates installed a new apt-sources-list package. My main repo line shows:

rpm http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde games xfce4

The section is kde, not kde4, and I did no manual editing of anything. Maybe PASS users did not get this package update, but I fail to see why they wouldn't, as it's the first repo that gets updates. I understand you may disagree with something YouCanToo may have said, but consider giving the man a little slack. He provides several invaluable resources to the PCLinuxOS community, free of charge.

I had a look at one of my machines that automatically updates daily.  The source.lst file shows that the repository that I had check did indeed have the section KDE4 changed to KDE.  All the other repos in the list that were not check were left unchanged with the section KDE4 remaining.

Notice that only the line that is bold has the section "KDE" all the rest are still KDE4

Seems to me that will cause issues at a later point in time should the end user switch to a different repo.  Has any one else noticed this with their /etc/apt/sources.lst file.

Same here.

Can someone who knows what all the current mirrors are right a script that will remove obsolete mirrors and update all the current mirrors with the correct settings for all?

Mark apt-sources-list for re installation, then Apply --> Apply. When done, close Synaptic and restart Synaptic, or just check /etc/apt/sources-list. All the entries should then have kde, rather than kde4.

I do believe that "pinoc" still maintains a listing of current repos.
