The repos are in flux ......  I suggest allowing some time and watch out for announcements about changes

I am going to follow that advice. However, for the information of anyone who cares to know, when I did a Reload today, I got:

W: Release file did not contain checksum information for http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/pkglist.kde4

Tried several other repos but got similar messages. Did NOT change any settings.

Did  Mark All Upgrades, which gave:

To be upgraded
gdk-pixbuf2.0
libgdk-pixbuf2.0_0
libjasper1

Didn't do Apply, only because of the error message that came up after Reload.

kde4-config --version   gives:

Qt: 4.8.2
KDE Development Platform: 4.6.5 (4.6.5)
kde4-config: 1.0

I just run regular updates and have never tried upgrading to 4.8. So for now guess I'm just going to sit tight and look for announcements.

By the way my system is also updated but is running KDE4.6.x
It failed because you are using KDE4.8.3 which requires the section KDE.  If you were still running KDE 4.6.xx it would use the section KDE4

Some people are not in any hurry to upgrade to KDE4.8

I for one have problems with it on several different machines.

Again it only fails if one has changed to KDE 4.8.3  If they have made the upgrade to KDE4.8.4 than they need to be using the KDE section in synaptic

YouCanToo you DO NOT know what you are talking about! My system did not change to 4.8.3 until I switched from kde4 to kde. My system is currently at kde 4.8.3 that is only since last night and only after my initial post on this forum. Before my initial post my system was on kde 4.6.5 and update-notifier was telling me there were updates but every time I attempted to update I got an error message telling me the kde4 package list could not be found on the repo. I tried another one and the same thing happened. So I tried another one same thing. That was why I posted here trying to figure out what was going on. Then I solved the problem and after that you posted your response that made no sense and you still insist on posting incorrect and confusing information. The repos are set up to move your system to 4.8.3 but it will not do it until you open the repository window in synaptic and change kde4 in sections to kde.

Make sure you know what you are talking about before you post more incorrect information.

Be cool Stealth.  ;D
Da man said the repos are in flux--not exactly sure what all that entails, but I checked the repo & here's what I got:

No kde4 -- just kde. Maybe the repo in-flux means the kde folders are on the way. Or we are subtly being offered kde4.8.x  ;D ;D ;D

At any rate, sure looks like a good time to go kde4.8 to whoever hasn't. Or find a repo with kde4 content.
I'm glad your upgrade went well.  ;D

I'm cool. Everything is good. It would just be a lot more helpful if we were informed as to what was being done. I am happy my upgrade went fine. The thing that is weird is update-notifier said there were updates but then synaptic couldn't get passed the initial reload of the pkglists because it was looking for kde4 and not kde. Then after I get my problem solved without a lot of grief  :) It turns out there is supposed to be a script that is supposed to do everything that I had already done manually with the settings change for the repo settings. The mirror I went to had already synced with the main server. The script either wasn't there or didn't work. But not a problem because I found the solution.

The only problem I had with YouCanToo is his post didn't help or answer the problem but created a lot of confusion and a lot of questions. I know YouCanToo helps out here a lot. I have been helped by him several times. I am cool with YouCanToo.  ;D

Lets keep it civil. While the information about the change from kde4 to kde is correct, there is no reason for the abusive personal ad-libs.
