[SOLVED] Repo trouble now synaptic trouble
« on: August 13, 2012, 04:21:34 PM »
It seems the repos are missing something. I have tried several and they all give the same error. I don't remember what the error said and now I can't get synaptic to even show it any more. Synaptic can't access any of the repos I have tried.

stealth,
I think you need to provide more information. At this end, I am using LXDE 2012 and have just updated via Synaptic with no problems. I only use one repository - apart from the one labelled Megagames. The main repository that I use is the one hosted by andrezjl - a keen member of this forum.

Seen that issue also, so change to another mirror or waiting when it's fully synced!

This is the one I have been using. It normally works.

http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/base/pkglist.kde4: 404 Not Found

Does anyone know of a good mirror that is located close to the USA south east?

It appears that the kde4 needs to be changed to kde. I saw that in another thread. When I did that it found everything. I haven't run the update yet because I don't know if everything is there and will work. Again there was something about this in another thread.

The repos are in flux ......  I suggest allowing some time and watch out for announcements about changes

That only needs to be done if they have changed to KDE 4.8.x

If they haven't changed the version of KDE then changing that would only screw things up for them. If you are running KDE4.6 leave the repo as it is! until you upgrade to KDE4.8

??? What? Explain that in more detail! What is being done with the distro? The other thread had nothing about that in it and I did change mine and everything worked.

I am running 4.8.3 now. My system was up-to-date and all attempts to run the update failed and the initial look at the repo failed to find the kde4 list in the repo. It wasn't until I changed kde4 to kde that everything worked again. Your information is very confusing and I don't see it as valid because it does cause confusion. The natural thing is for people to update. They can't update unless they change the repo section list from kde4 to kde.

For those of you who want to update change your kde4 in the section list where you set your repo target to kde and your system will be able to update. If you don't every time you open synaptic and click on reload you will get errors and will not be able to install or update anything.

By the way my system is also updated but is running KDE4.6.x
It failed because you are using KDE4.8.3 which requires the section KDE.  If you were still running KDE 4.6.xx it would use the section KDE4

Some people are not in any hurry to upgrade to KDE4.8

I for one have problems with it on several different machines.

Again it only fails if one has changed to KDE 4.8.3  If they have made the upgrade to KDE4.8.4 than they need to be using the KDE section in synaptic

Fire up Dolphin (or any other KDE app) and then click Help -> About KDE and all will be revealed  :)
