[SOLVED] no sound
« on: August 11, 2012, 08:37:53 PM »
Hello,

For some strange reason i have lost my sound. In konsole if i type amarok it gives me this:

]QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
KGlobal::locale::Warning your global KLocale is being recreated with a valid main component instead of a fake component, this usually means you tried to call i18n related functions before your main component was created. You should not do that since it most likely will not work
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
[0x95fefb4] main services discovery error: no suitable services discovery module
amarok: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/phonon_backend/phonon_vlc.so: undefined symbol: libvlc_audio_filter_list_get
unnamed app(5456): Communication problem with  "amarok" , it probably crashed.
Error message was:  "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)"

if amarok doesn't work, this doesn't mean that you lost sound, there is many audio players in synaptic, have you tried other players and verified kmix to see how is your volume levels?

what kernel do you have?  uname -r in konsole

do you have pulseaudio installed?  a sound card with hdmi output?  give us more information about your install and your hardware

Did you loose your audio after an update in the past 24 - 48 hrs? I lost my audio after the last update, but not in applications, only the start up and shut down sounds.

Well i have fixed my sound. What i did was in Package Manager i removed Phonon-vlc ( as Phonon kept crashing ) and installed Phonon-gstreamer.

Rebooted my system, and then went into Configure Your Desktop - Hardware - Multimedia and clicked on Phonon (didn`t crash ) and did a test with all the settings and worked.
