[SOLVED] Lost sound after upgrading KDE to 4.8.3
« on: August 05, 2012, 12:48:01 PM »
Hi there,

I updated my KDE to 4.8.3 using the KDEupgrade script, which, btw, went as smooth as eating pudding - well done pinoc  :)

Nevertheless, one small issue occurred:

For one moment i was deeply shocked, after I registered, that I don't have sound anymore.
After a short search on the net I ran "alsaconf" as root and got it back - puh.

But after reboot the sound was gone again, so I had to do the aforementioned step again - with success.

Searching the forum got me this topic:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,95165.0.html
with a step-by-step manual by AndrzejL, which I thoroughly followed, but to no success, so that I still have to run "alsaconf" as root to get my sound back after every reboot.

So, has anyone any idea about it?

Thanks,
Thomas

OK, after trying one and a half million things found on the net subjecting to this issue (and always going back to my former configuration state, I hope, after they showed to be unsuccessful), I finally found the solution - at least for me:

All steps (except the reboots) to be done as root.

1) alsaconf
2) alsactl store

-reboot-

3) Copy the content of /etc/modules.conf (every line beginning with "alias") to the end of /etc/modprobe.conf (if they aren't already part of the latter one, which, in my case, they were not).

-reboot-
Voila  :D

I have no clue, how this should be interconnected to my upgrade to KDE 4.8.3, after which this problem immediately arose (see above).

Regards,
Thomas

there is other two posts suggesting problems with folder permissions with the kdeupgrade script but i didn't used that script so can't help much

i think that there is another post with similar audio problems but i don't remember how it was solved
