O.K. two separate problems:
First:
I have tried installing PC Linux KDE 2012-02 but the install stops after about 5 minutes.
What happens when the installation stops?
Is there anything displayed on the screen? If so what was the last message.
Is there a blank screen? If so try selecting "Video safe mode" from the LiveCD menu. If that works you should then be able to set up the video card in PCC.
Second:
Have been able to install the 64 bit version but have no sound although the video works and no control over the grub menu so not able to swop to windows.
If pressing the "num lock" key turns the appropriate LED on and off, then BIOS has control of the keyboard. It's possible that the keyboard has a funny layout and the up/down arrows are being read incorrectly. Do "Page Up" and "Page Down" have any effect?
Did you do the md5sum check? If you downloaded the iso on a linux machine you can find the checksum in a terminal with:
md5sum path/filename
Hope some of that may help.
Russell.
