SOLVED : Geforce 440 gt - Nvidia-current
« on: August 10, 2012, 08:55:58 PM »
hello guys

first of all , Be patient with me  :)

How can I install Propriety driver for this graphics card Geforce 440 gt ? Is it installed by default ?
How can I know which driver is installed ?

there is two messages appear at boot :

1- can't open file delete
2- the Propriety driver for your graphic card can not be found, the system is now using the free software driver (nvidia) !!

Is this PC specification good to run pclinuxos kde

Cpu : Intel® Core™ i3 2120 Processor (3.3GHz, 3M)
Graphics card : Gigabyte Geforce 440 GT 2GB DDR3
Ram : 4 GB ddr3

and i partition HDD :
( /) : 80 GB
( swap ) : 4GB

There is a bit slow when used PCLinuxOS kde .. after enable kwin effects so i think when i install the Propriety driver maybe this help me when using effects .

with my pleasure, raed

1- can't open file delete

That message is harmless. Nothing to worry about.

2- the Propriety driver for your graphic card can not be found, the system is now using the free software driver (nvidia) !!

Open Synaptic. Click Reload. Click Mark All Upgrades. If there are any updates, click the Apply button. Always do this before installing any new packages. After you are fully updated, click Search. Enter nvidia in the search box. Mark the dkms-nvidia-current package for installation. Mark all dependencies shown in the popup window. Click Apply. Click Apply in the popup window.

After all packages have downloaded and installed, close all programs and REBOOT. The first reboot will take a little longer than normal. The nVidia kernel module has to build one time only. To see the progress, press the Escape key when the message is shown on the bootup screen. Be patient and let the process finish.

That computer is more than sufficient to run KDE4.

raed - could try setting screen resolution from

Configure Your Desktop > Hardware > Display & Monitor > Size & Orientation

your  Size & Orientation might look a tad different from mine but you should still get the idea  ;)

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

yes proprietary Nvidia drivers will make a big difference to the graphics effects.

I have seen that message about not using the correct drivers here a couple of times, but it was never accurate.

what kernel are you using?
In a terminal

uname -r

to get the kernel version.

You choosing the wrong nvdia driver! (the legacy nvidia96xx driver in synaptic)

If it' s correctly configured you have to see like this:

You get nvidia display settings in menu (depends on your DE) More applications -> configurations -> nvidia display settings.

If you running it you get this:

This is the correct setting for the current nvidia driver for your nvidia videocard.

.

You have to configure it with PCC manually.

You can set you monitor to 1920 x 1080 as maximum resolution: Flat Panel 1920x1080

You can configure it also with PCC.

I have a GeForce 460 GT, and this is what PCC shows for me:

You should be picking "400 or newer" when choosing the driver, not the 6100 or better option, I believe.

Very strange here then if it' s using the same nvidia driver.  :-\

I can't test it because I'm using a GTS 250.

I'm Confusing now , as i said before i choose GeForce 400 series and later because i think it's appropriate for my card but every time i reboot this message again appear ""the Propriety driver for your graphic card can not be found, the system is now using the free software driver (nvidia)"
