Dave,

I have the same experience with my Asus Transformer Prime with keyboard dock.
I tried several cables, as it has been my experience that cheaper, lower quality
cables often do not work, regardless of the device.

I also enabled USB debugging (under the Developer options in Settings). No joy.

However, all is not lost.  If you have a home wireless network, you can
use the AirDroid app on the tablet.  It creates a full blown HTTP server
on the device that is accessible by the local network.  It is a very complete
management console. Very nice.

I use it all the time to move files to/from my tablet and phone (a Samsung Galaxy S2).
Very handy to also install applications as I am starting to learn the Android
development platform.

The Galaxy S2 is seen and works without issue when connected via USB
with either my PCLinuxOS box or the tablet. Go figure.

Is there something specific you want to do?

Hope this helps.

Kindest Regards,

AussieBear.

in my smartphone i found that it offers to connect as usb mass storage device or as a mtp device to download images as a camera

my android device has android 4.0.4, not sure if 4.0.3 has that on your device

there is another post where is described what to do with the mtp device to make it work but is a workaround and can't find the post atm

since i don't like to mount as usb mass storage device because i can't access files on the sd card when mounted, i also use airdroid

it is extremely easy to use, works very well with firefox

T6,

It seems that PCLinuxOS (32-bit, KDE 4.6) happily sees and mounts my Samsung Galaxy S2
smartphone running ICS 4.0.3.  My Transformer Prime tablet, also running ICS 4.0.3, no so much.

As I described earlier, I can plug my Sammy G-S2 in to the Prime and it launches an Asus
application called "My Gallery" as if the G-S2 was a camera with memory, just like the
PClinuxOS box.

Sadly, plugging the Prime into the PCLinuxOS box gives no joy.  Would be nice to figure
it out as having the ability to do Android USB debugging would be quite welcome.

If I do any Android USB debugging it is with the G-S2, so it is not a priority, nor have I
spent a lot of time on it...

Regards,

AussieBear.

on my device the usb mass storage mode exist, but i know that other devices removed this option, especially devices with internal storage only, my device still uses microsd

the way to change from mtp to mass sotrage is different on each phone, specially on sony devices(what i have now)

on other android 4.0 the usb mass storage device mode was removed and the only solution there is use the mtpfs package and follow the steps to mount the filesystem but i can't find that post atm

airdroid works for almost all android devices with wifi, so, if you can't use a usb mass storage device and don't want mtp, a tool like airdroid is perfect for you, there is many other tools like airdroid but airdroid is really good

Hi AussieBear,
Reading your info, I installed AIRDROID on my Samsung Andriod Galaxy S2 but on connecting via Firefox I am asked for a login name, this I do not have or know.
Question  how do I login the tablet?

This may have to do with both being set up in the USB host mode, while the phone is a USB client.

My guess is that if the tablet is rooted,  mass storage access is available .

I have a  7in Ainol Novo 7 Crystal which is a Chinese branded tablet.

After installing a 3rd party Jelly Bean 4.1.1 ROM I am having no problems with mass storage mode.

Also the tablet is great cost me only $115.00

Not too sure that having the tablet rooted is necessary

this will help. it works for my Asus Transformer tf101

I wish worked with my TF101, tried all ways, at best it does not work, at worst my file manager(s) dolphin/krusader/emelfm2 lock trying to access and I need to log out/back in.

The annoying thing is that a usb connection using a Win7 VM works OOTB.

How do I get files in and out
usb memory stick when using the TF101 dock/keyboard
microSD +card reader when not using the dock - this one is recommended by the transformer forum!
wireless to my router/NAS. Android Total Commander file manager (ghisler.com) works well for this.
