Network printing
« on: August 08, 2012, 04:52:45 PM »
I've not tried this before other than in the office with ethernet. There it was a matter of attaching a print server to the printer, then, at the PC, map LPT to a server/device.
Something like lpt: \\servername\printserver.

Well at home, I have Brother laser printer attached via USB, to a Windows 7 PC.
My wife would like to be able to print from her new netbook running PCLinuxos.
I have another netbook that I could use if helpful.
Can't we use PCLinusos on the dormant netbook as a print server, and attach the Brother printer to it, and be able to print remotely.
Oh yeah, all the PCs are wireless.

I was under the impression that with Linux, most all things are possible. :=)

can you laptop connect wirelessly?

yes you can, install a package called "samba-server", go to pcc(pclinux control center) services area and make sure samba is running and set to auto start at boot time, configure samba to do printing services and you are good.

i have never configured a printer server in samba so i cant help you out on how to configure one, hopefully somebody who knows will come along soon and help you out.
