SCX4100 Scanning
« on: August 06, 2012, 04:34:00 AM »
Hi,

I have been around for a couple of years now, other than a period of some months when I had
a deal of photos to scan in and felt forced back into the clutches of Windows XP.

I am now quite settled but there are one or two little niggles I have learned to live with.

I suspect that the work around that I now use for scanning with my Samsung SCX4100 printer/
scanner is what I must live with. (I have WinXP set as a virtual machine.)
I wonder though, has anyone managed to set this scanner up in PCLinuxOS?  It is the only reason
that virtual box exists, and I would like to shake off Windows completely.

I have SCX4200 and scanner works. In fact out of box. Your device is not detected or your problem is different?

Sir, Herr Batka,

Hi, Thanks for responding. The SCX4100 is automatically recognized on its USB port
and works as a printer. It does not get automatically seen as a scanner, though it does
say I make a successful job of manually installing. I have tried selecting many different
scanners also and run through the manual install, to no useful effect. I have also looked
at the Samsung website and tried a universal driver from there, it only seemed to set up
for the printer. It did work though.

ps, I hope I got your name right.

Hello again, lulz,

Drakconf? Hm, I'm sure I have seen it mentioned before but can't recall anything about it.
I used Set up scanner in hardware section of PCLinuxOS Control Panel. Knowing there is an
alternative method, that hopefully is simple enough for me to follow, gives me hope that I
might indeed see an end of MS OS's.

Keith,
had same problem with my HP all-in-one recognized only as printer.
solved installing from synaptic the package simple-scan
and now my printer works also as a scanner.
cheers

lulz,

Thanks for trying anyway, very much appreciated.

twa, (or two in Scottish),

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I'm glad it worked for you but I'm afraid it did not for me.
As lulz's works straight out the box, I suspect my problem might be that as an early model,
maybe the firmware of the scanner needs updating, something I can certainly live with.
