This is my 1st install of any flavor of linux and I got here by accident thinking it was a generic forum for all flavors. While here I decided to give it a try and I like it so far.
As an aside, I tried making a bootable USB drive and that didn't work, but the bootable CD did.
And it's very pretty.

In case it's important, the box is running Windows 7 but I think that is irrelevent.
My printer is a Brother HL-2040, connected via USB.
I tried using 3 of the embedded drivers, generic, and I think 2030 and another Brother. No love.
I poked around the Brother site and it suggested that I try
Localhost:631 and add a printer there. Unfortunately it asked me for a user/pw and root/root won't work.
They had what looked like driver files named something like cupwrapper.rpm, and another.deb that I downloaded but have no clue what to do with them.
They had drivers for about 5 different distro, pclinuxos not being one, but I was guessing that another distro might work.
I was amazed at how lightning fast this was. Browsing certain web sites using firefox. Damned fast.
Oh yeah, will apps that are on the C: drive that were installed for Windows, work ?
Things like Quicken.
One more. Reading other folks troubles with printers and the solutions talked about installing 2 apps, printerdrake and task-printing. The post was over a year old so it might not still apply. DomI need to do it ?
And thanks
