Freerdp installed and remmina removed, now no vnc
« on: August 03, 2012, 04:43:25 AM »
Today's update installed Freerdp and removed remmina (my absolute favorite vnc client program) and now I do not have a vnc client program.

I read that freerdp is actually a "sister program" to remmina, so they should be similiar, I guess.  I tried to run freerdp from the commandline but get a message that "bash: freerdp: command not found".  There is no icon in the menu to run it.  Also I can not install remmina now as I get this message when marking remmina to install with synaptic:
Quote
remmina:
 Depends: remmina-plugins
When I mark remmina-plugins for install, I get:
Quote
remmina-plugins:
 Depends: remmina (>= 0.9)
Depends: libfreerdpchanman.so.0  but it is not installable
Depends: libfreerdpkbd.so.0  but it is not installable
Depends: libfreerdp.so.0  but it is not installable

Am I missing something here?  If Freerdp replaces remmina shouldn't it run as a program itself?  Is remmina now a "broken" program since it is not installable?  If it is a broken program then I have posted this in the wrong place, oops.

I believe the command is
Code: [Select]
xfreerdp

I requested the update to FreeRDP, but I have seen it in the repo, yet...I'll check now.

OK.  I see the update...

Synaptic wants to remove libfreedrp0 and upgrade freerdp and libfreerdp1.  I'll let you know how that goes...

Thanks pags.  This is what I get when I try that command:
Quote
[user@localhost ~]$ xfreerdp
missing server name
failed to parse arguments.

Since you are more familiar with FreeRDP than I am, is it supposed to have a GUI interface or is it command line only?  I really liked remmina.

FreeRDP is command line, only...

I see that I don't have remmina installed...let me see what that is like...

Selecting remmina wants to upgrade:
Quote
libtelepathy-glib0
tslib
x11-server-xephyr

Clicking OK gives a
Quote
remmina:
Depends: remmina-plugins

Selecting remmina-plugins (instead) wants to upgrade:
Quote
libtelepathy-glib0
tslib
x11-server-xephyr

Quote
remmina-plugins:
 Depends: remmina (>= 0.9)
Depends: libfreerdpchanman.so.0  but it is not installable
Depends: libfreerdpkbd.so.0  but it is not installable
Depends: libfreerdp.so.0  but it is not installable

Look like it may indeed be broken...

Ok, an appropriate broken thread has already been started:
