HP/Compaq dc7600 ICH7/ALC260 sound mapping problem
« on: July 30, 2012, 09:41:55 PM »
I obtained a HP dc7600 small-form-factor desktop for PCLOS use.  The sound worked fine on the LiveCD (2012) but disappeared after the second re-boot.  No settings have any effect.

I believe I have found the issue resolved (with no mention of what Linux OS) at the following location:

http://www.mattb.net.nz/blog/2006/08/05/working-sound-on-an-hp-dc7600/

This refers to "ALSA Bug #2157 which fixes an identical problem for a different motherboard (Subsystem 0×3012) by using the ALC260_HP_3013 mapping in the driver".

A text of a patch to correct the problem is provided, however, I cannot find similar directory entries in PCLOS.

I am pretty sure this patch would correct my problem if it was tailored to PCLOS and I knew how to generate a patch from a text file and apply it.

If someone could point me in the right direction and provide simple instructions for generating and applying this patch for PCLOS it would be most appreciated.

Hmm...  poking around in my own kerrnel 3.2.18 system, I don't see any directories that relate to this, either...

I read the referenced article, but could not follow the link to the ALSA project's bug tracker for some reason.  Does the original report of the bug get into any more detail? You might try looking at /etc/alsa/alsactl.conf?  (I'm not at all sure.)

Dell Latitude D620, PCLinuxOS 2012.08 KDE4/LXDE, 3.2.18.pclos.bfs, specs here.
