How wise would it be... [SOLVED]
« on: July 26, 2012, 07:48:00 AM »
...to share a /home folder between a stable and one or two testing installations of PCLinuxOS? I would like to keep my settings and preferences across different installs and also share my Folding@Home folder so I can continue my work when I boot from stable to testing and back on. It would be great, but what are the risks (if any)? I should add that I backup my /home folder every night to an external hard disk and I also keep my most valuable data on DVD disks stored in safe place.

the apps on stable version are not the same as on testing, different versions

each config file stored inside the /home could be modified by the different apps and give you problems when you log in to the older stable version

i personally wouldn't share configs, only files on a folder between the installs

also, if you have lots of important things on one pc, i wouldn't use it for testing and for stable, too much at risk

pclinux is popular for being stable, even on the TR versions but i wouldn't risk my personal files this way, as always, keep backups of your important files, no matter the os you use
