3 questions/problems about Full Monty
« on: July 20, 2012, 04:53:30 AM »
Hi,

1. Is there 64-bit version of Full Monty? I installed this http://www.pclinuxos.com/?page_id=1413 but my RAM shows only 3.25 GB (I have 4GB).

2. I updated all the system and i got the problem with new KDE. I read the topic about fixxing it -

Same thing happened here, all me desktop tweaks, custom application stuff on panel are gone . No biggie, I can rebuild the desktop the way I like it, but it is a pain to have to do it.

My grep results:

[chris@localhost ~]$ ls -la |grep .kde
drwxr--r--  4 chris chris  4096 Jun 17 01:09 .kde4/
drwxr-xr-x  4 chris chris  4096 Jun 17 01:06 .kde4.bak/
-rw-------  1 chris chris   353 Jun  9  2011 .kderc

Regards

Christian

Rename .kde4 to .kde4-new, then rename .kde4.bak to .kde4, then log out, and back in. Your old setup with all your personal tweaks should return.

but where i can find the .kde4 ?? Is it file or folder or what ?

3. I have MB Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 (Realtek ALC888 codec) and i use my integrated sound card, but it does not "give bass" to my subwoofer.

Any help will be very appreciated! :)

Otherwise this distro became my favourite from the 4 or 5 i tried :)

.kde4 is a hidden folder in your home directory (/home/<your-name>). It contains most of your KDE settings. The dot (.) at the beginning of the name makes it hidden, which means that you have to tick "Show Hidden Files" under "View" in Konqueror or Dolphin to see it. (You can of course make this the default.) At the command line a simple "ls" won't list it; "ls -a" will. (The -a option stands for "--all").

I don't think there is 64-bit version of Full Monty yet, but if your main concern is that you want to use more of your memory, you may not need one. Installing a "pae" kernel should give you access to most of your RAM, but note that some RAM may be used by your video card.

2 and 3 fixed :) It occured that after updating KDE one option appeared in "start menu" , something like "restore KDE old behavior", clicked it and one restart made everything the old theme :)

1. Is there 64-bit version of Full Monty, because i intend to do upgrade with 2x4GB, but this 3.25GB max detection is annoying, does everybody with more than 3 GB RAM don't use the max capacity ?

There is no 64 bit release of any type as yet.
There are ONLY test releases ....  for testers to find bugs etc.

Your question about memory has been answered  ......  install a new kernel with a .pae extension and use up to 64GB of memory if you wish.

1. Open Synaptic.
2. Click Reload.
3. Click Mark All Upgrades.
4. If there are any upgrades, click Apply. Otherwise, the Apply button will be inaccessible.
5. Click Search.
6. Change Look in: Description and Name to Name.
7. Enter kernel in the search field.
8. Mark package kernel-3.2.18-pclos2.pae or kernel-3.2.18-pclos2.pae.bfs for installation.
9. In the popup window, click the Mark button.
10. Click Apply.
11. Click Apply in the popup window.
12. When the installation has completed, close all running programs and REBOOT.
13. Give the reboot time to complete. Kernel modules will have to be installed to the new kernel.

The default "linux" boot screen option will load the kernel you just installed. The reboot will take extra time only once, provided the boot process is not interrupted. If you wish to see the progress on the screen, press the Escape key when the corresponding message flashes on the screen.

I think questions about Full Monty would get answered quicker in the specific forum section dedicated to it.

I don't use FM so cannot be sure ...

about the sound card, the woofer should be handled in the kmix window

open kmix and verify volume levels, there is some volume levels that could be muted and you need to set properly

Yeah T6

I fixed the sound, it was just clicking and unmuting the "sound icon" on the right down corner :)

I have a final question about resizing gadget windows?  :-*

i don't have fullmonty so not sure if we are talking about the same thing

if you want to resize widgets you need to unlock widgets first, in the desktop right click/unlock widgets

when you move over each widget in the desktop when unlocked they will offer a border with 4 buttons, the first is to resize the widget

the second is to rotate the widget, hold it and rotate it, you can turn it up to 360°

the third is to configure the widget, each widget offers different options to configure

the X button is to remove the widget

i know that fullmonty is different to normal kde so the descriptions i gave you might not work but since no fullmonty user replied, i tried with this info, hope it helps
