NX200 won't print after update. SOLVED
« on: September 04, 2011, 04:54:20 AM »
I've just updated my LXDE and now I cannot print anything.  I followed up the printer trouble shooter and at one point got a message about Gutenprint version xxxx.xxx (presumable the latest one) being incompatible with my Epson NX200 - but I cannot reproduce the details of this message.  Naturally I tried resetting both the netbook and printer.

Is there some way I can reinstall the earlier Gutenprint software?

(I had originally posted this under hardware, but thought this might be a better place.)

How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

Nothing I do in the way of resetting or reinstalling the printer works.

I can still print from my old KDE 3.5 installation - but that's tedious, and it seems to live in another time zone - I always have to reset the clock afterwards!

I've found the problem, by accident.  I went into synaptic to find the version of Gutenprint and got a message that more than one version of some of the gutenprint files was installed.  So I removed and reinstalled all of them and now it works OK.

I suppose the update was faulty.

I'm getting a similar error:

Idle - "ijsgutenprint: the version of Gutenprint software installed (5.2.7) does not match the PPD file (5.2.6)."

I removed everything related related to glutenprint and reinstalled to no effect.

FWIW the printer is a PIXMA IP4000. Seems to be correctly identified.

I think there may be another thread from me on a similar problem.  There was a known error in the gutenprint version, but I found that if I over-ruled the automatic selection and installed the driver for a related model it worked OK.  In my case I think I had to use the driver for a TX200, but that worked on my NX200.  Now it seems the supplied NX200 is OK.

I suggest you try drivers for some other pixma models.
