Not picking up surrounding Networks
« on: July 18, 2012, 01:23:00 PM »
I have an issue what I think is strange.  When booting up PCLinuxOS from a CD, it will show all networks around my house including the one in my house.  Then I go ahead connecting to the one in my house and install PCLinuxOS.  After the new install I reboot and it comes up fine and is connecting immediately to the network I have chosen before install.  Its just strange though when I then wanna change to a different network, since we have two networks in our house, its not showing the other ones at all.  Its ONLY showing the one I have chosen when I started the live CD. Not the the other one in my house and not the ones surrounding the house.  Every now and then its showing the other ones.  And this is happening not only with PCLinuxOS, also with other Mandriva based distros.  Its not happening with gnome distros, at least not with them I tried the last few days.  Since I rely on my wireless, this can be very frustrating. Any ideas out there ?

It's very common for the other networks to be turned off.   Not everyone
leaves them on 100% of the time.   Be sure yours is on and go to "configure
your computer" to create the second network configuration.   The auto
settings work very well on my wifi.

Have you tried Gnome apps> wicd or NetworkManager?
(both are in the repo)

I am using Network Center and found out that when i cancel a connection and reboot Network Center, then other Networks are showing up.  So in that way I am able to connect to the other network. I cant find "wicd" in the repo.  Maybe since I am using PCLinuxOS 64bit.  I will try NetworkManager later.

When using the wireless run as root terminal "netstat -ie"
and perhaps "netstat -r"

Shows a nice table of what's going on with wlan0
