Quick question: I want to install the Odesk Team application. It's a project collaboration and time tracking app for online/remote contractors and the people who hire them. They have versions available for another distro (9.04 through 12.1), OpenSUSE 12.1, ArchLinux, Fedora 10 through 16 and Mint Linux (plus a generic, static version.) Which one would be the most compatible with PCLOS?
TIA.

JayMot.. there is some information here.. https://www.odesk.com/community/node/22510 but the package mentioned in the thread is no longer available on the Odesk website! [The current package is odeskteam_bundle-3.2.55.tar.bz2]
A few months ago I was able to get Odesk Team running on my computer, as a testbed for my sis-in-law's use, after emailing Odesk. They come back confirming the same instructions as shown in the Odesk thread above.
Here is the previous install instructions for PCLinuxOS..
sudo mkdir -p /opt/odesk && sudo tar -C /opt/odesk -jxf odeskteam_bundle-3.2.43.tar.bz2 && /opt/odesk/bin/odeskteam [change the package details]
AFAIK it has worked OK on Sis's Pclos laptop. Use at your own risk!
Those are most certainly not the instructions for PCLinuxOS. We do not use sudo in that manner; never have, never will.

As the originator of this information perhaps some detail is in order..
1) I understand that sudo is NOT to be used (under normal circumstances)
2) I gifted a laptop to my sister-in-law who lives with her family in what is best described as sheer poverty here in the Philippines
3) Because her preference of windoze on the laptop could not be validated, I installed PCLinuxOS (which was really my intention) to enable her to use her computer skills online and earn some money
4) She needs to be able to use Odesk Team to earn said income
5) Odesk Team is not an approved program - not in the repos - hence no advice for installation here!
6) Omitting sudo did not allow the program to install
7) Odesk referred me to their original instructions

Attempted to install Odesk on my spare laptop - installed and ran using sudo !!??!!
9) You are no doubt pleased to hear that Sister-in-law now has work from Odesk and is able to ease their financial burdens!
10) So technicalties and umbrage aside.. this can be marked as "solved" in human terms if not otherwise. People's lives first, huh?
