[Solved] digital network monitor

Does anyone know of a small network monitor (digital readout)  that sits in the tray to show how fast your download/upload speed is for PCLOS KDE?   KNetstats looks like what I'm looking for but it isn't in snyaptic.  Thank you.

knemo is probably what you want.

Be sure to read all the Synaptic comments in the lower right window. Especially:

I'm a big fan of KNemo

It covers how much has been up/downloaded by the hour/day/week/months and years.

It also has a traffic plotter graph to "see" the download rate.

Another option is the Network Monitor Plasma Widget which can be placed on the desktop and that shows traffic speed

Thanks to you both.  I will try KNemo.   I tried one called Vnstat that was in Synaptic but it never showed up in menu anywhere so I uninstalled it.   I'm guessing it had to be installed via command line.

JohnW_57,  Sounds like I'm outta luck.   Is it possible to install KNstats here in PCLOS KDE by going to the website and downloading the file and install it using command?  It's probably one of those "tar" whatever type files.  I tried before to install a "tar" file with step by step instructions but it was a no go.

WHOA!  KNemo is there!  I just noticed it when I looked at the clock.  There was new icon with two little monitors blinking.  I have it configured now to show download/upload speeds digitally.  GREAT!   Just what I was looking for.  Thank you djohnston and menatu for suggesting KNemo.

No, KDE 3.x and KDE 4.x are not compatible (QT3 for KDE 3.x/QT4 for KDE4) also since the KDE 4.8 releases it is moving to QML (needs QT4.8 and Javascript).

So my answer is a big no no!

Controlling what?

Right clicking on the knemo icon and you'll find

Show Status Diialogue
Configure
Show Statistics
Show Traffic Plotter

Have you tried resizing it as it shows the download speed in figures as well as the graph.




And  monitors more than one network

menotu,  I don't need the graph showing me a little bit network history.  I just needed the digital readout just to know if a download is working.   You know how sometimes you click on something and nothing is happening?  This just let's me know that it's working.  Thanks for the info in KNemo.

You are going to kick yourself. Bottom right, the network icon, for me a black circle with a green tick, right click, Monitor Network

Next vnstat is ok, its in synaptic with a gui as well. Why not embrace the dark side and use the terminal to configure and run it?

I seem to remember I got it to work and I had to modify a link. I am no expert. There is a challenge for you.
