[Solved] Sharing a printer on network
« on: July 11, 2012, 03:43:53 PM »
Hi
I'm looking to make my printer available on the network, because I believe cups will allow AirPrint from my pod and pad. How do I do this? Texstar said go to the cups server on Internet and then select publish by the printer of choice.  However when I go to the cups server there is no option to publish.  Any advice?
Cheers
Rob

What kind of printer do you have?
Is your system fully up-to-date?

I think it should be somewhere in the settings of the printer itself....
=> if you can't find it, I'll need to connect a printer locally here (printers available on this laptop are all network shared on another pc, available for the other PCLinuxOS pc's here) - I only can remember from the other pc that I had to set a setting somewhere about sharing it [I think]....

Hi

I sorted it thanks, When I went to printer in PCC I found the server section (top left, not sure how I missed it).  Published the printer.  Yet still no luck.  A bit of reading & found that I had to add "ServerAlias *" to etc/cups/cupsd.conf and hey presto I can now print from my pad and pod.

Fine to hear about that good experience - now I know better too what's possible with cups  :)
