mylivecd ran Ok and completed to the step

Creating compressed image [100% ]
Next step is creating isolinuxboot which shows  [11.11%.00.00.00 etc]die
Fatal kernel ´/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs´ does not exist on your machine.
When this happened first time I used synaptic to install a later version of Mylivecd and ran it again getting exactly the same result.
I installed my system with a separate partition mounted  /boot and when i went to look its  there  in /boot.
I conclude that after the command umount I should have also done mount /boot before running Mylivecd. It probably cannot find it because the partition is unmounted by umount
Having run it twice I have two compressed images 100%
Is there a way to complete the process of creating the isolinux boot and then creating the iso without rerunning the whole thing again. ?
Please confirm the command to remount boot is mount /boot
thanks

That command should be correct.

mylivecd is a Perl script, so it should be possible to copy it somewhere and then edit the copy to carry on from where it stopped. However, it might be quicker just to let it run again some time you are not otherwise using the machine.

Run the command ---
Code: [Select]
uname -r
and post the result.

??? You were not fully up to date? You have been updating only those apps you want? Not a good idea. You should do a full upgrade. Otherwise you will have problems.

neal your comment noted about keeping up to date.
I have had such a costly disaster with upgrades that I live in fear of doing them, most specifically with KDE versions. I have very fast download capability now so untill KDE stops putting out bug infested updates I will renew my system with a new download of the latest version of ISO every now and then. Total back up of all my data will keep me safe and I can reload all my data files after installing the latest ISO.

If you're using the latest ISO, you will be using the latest kernel, 3.2.18 and the latest mylivecd - i.e. you can not install a later version as it does not exist.

Thanks . The command  uname -r confirms the  Kernel version it is looking for is correct.
I can see it all in /boot with dolphin. Logically the only reason Mylivecd cannot find it is because the partition is unmounted. I am sure Mount /boot will fix it and i will come back to mark this topic as solved. Any one else who gets this problem will then find the answer here.
I am immensely grateful for the quick responses you give on this forum

That would seem to be the logical conclusion .....  if the /boot partition has been unmounted.

Do you have a specific need to have a separate /boot partition?

Just wondering ....

The ISO I am running is about 8weeks old that is why the Kernel is still in the twoś .It does fine for my hardware and I have gradually solved problems sufficiently to be happy at work with my computer.
I have done a deal with a local computer shop to install PClinusOS on new computers he sells and provide some support eg setting up internet and email and backup systems. I get payed a small fee for doing it and will download latest iso and make live DVD for each client.
My own machine does what I need so I expect not do make many changes.
We did a check on Microsoft prices and  Found they want nearly R1000 for a home version of  office which does not even include an email program so we expect to start up a good many families on PclinuxOS. I am very exited . Data cost here to do download is high at R60 per iso download plus a blank dvd at R22. I will charge R120 for the disk I supply which is fair to cover my time doing the download. I will be paid R200 to spend an hour or two with the customer showing the ins and outs of  KDE fullmonty and set up email accounts and internet connections. Umtsmon does these USB broadband modems very nicely and we get on line speeds better than 160 Kbytes /second. I even watched the Wmbeldon tennis on line without a glitch.Tv in South Africa is pathetic so the ability to watch on line will really catch customers fancy.

Re Separate Boot partition. I noticed that the autopartition tended to waste space on the drive so i set up a  one gig boot partition and a 4 gig swap which then gave what I thought was better disk usage. When I install again I will not do that. I want 40 Gig of / and 4 G of swap and the balance to /home.
I write books with LYX and use Gimp etc with very big files for illustration.
Anyway I have learned seperate boot partition is not such a good idea. I love PclinuxOs it is getting me very deeply involved. Suse has that installer but I have found Synaptic is just as good and a bit more hands on.

the 40GB for  /  is a bit generous other than that the swap should be related to the installed ram if S2R is to be usable.

Depends what you use it for. I have 20GB for / but it was getting a bit full with my backups stored in it (I don't rely on them, but keep extra copies there for greater safety), so I have mounted a 30GB partition on the backup directory. I had a 10GB partition before but it got full.

So under the two partitions which can be considered / I have about 19 GB stored. 20 GB is therefore a bit tight, as a partition should not be more than 85% full (17GB in my case) to prevent excessive fragmentation and provide emergency space if /tmp grows suddenly.

As these computers are to be sold to users whose needs are unknown there is little point making partitions too small, so 30-40GB could be reasonable for / on say a 500 GB disc. Ideally you want partitions bigger than needed rather than smaller, or you finish up having to mount new partitions on directories as I have done to make space.

I did the command  mount /boot and mylivecd ran to completion or so it seemed ???
But the iso is not to be found. Did a search with find files starting in / no iso was made

here is screen shot of consol oops it does not work
I made three screen snap shots .they are in .png format but when I tried to copy paste them here it does not work . Can you tell me how I insert the pics here

going on without pics
Lines of output from mylivecd in consol:
setting file system parameters  100%
creating compressed image         100%
creating isolinux boot                  100%
Creating final iso                          100%

Restoring services on the installed system

ls cannot access pcloslee1.iso : no such file or directory
argument ¨" isn´t numeric in division (/) at usr/sbin/mylivecd  line248

created pcloslee1.iso  (0.000 bytes) in 05:56:20
that is end of consol output

Looking in    /tmp

there are three folders
mylivecd  5048 created 07/09/12
mylivecd 9355 created 07/11/12
mylivecd 21405 created 07/10/12
First and third contain a file   livecd.sqfs of 4GB
These two were made when the program failed because it could not find /boot
the folder mylivecd 9355 according to date of creation is the one from this last seemingly successful run but it does not have any sqfs file ?

for some reason it just did not create the iso.
I know that there is nothing wrong with Mylivecd script because I have made iso with it before only bug this time was caused by that separate boot partition being dismounted
Looks like i am in a big mess
when I know how to insert my screen shots of directories etc and console here I will provide them.

The iso image has a maximum size, determined by the size of a DVD. I think it's about 3.6GB, from memory. Failure to create it usually results from the files being too big to fit. Maybe including the kernel has pushed it just over the limit.

@llewellyn  You can't copy and paste your snapshots.  You have to upload them to some file sharing host such as http://postimage.org/my.php and copy and paste one of the links they give you.  I usually use the first thumbnail link but one of the previous links will do if you want to display a full-size image.  When a thumbnail is used clicking on it here opens the full-size image.

Do a search of the forum for

numeric in division (/) at /usr/sbin/mylivecd

and you should find answers to your problem with this error.
