How to find files in Dolphin/Konqueror?
« on: July 09, 2012, 08:12:00 PM »
I just installed pclinuxos-enlightenment.2010.12.

Dolphin and Konqueror give the same error message when I try to find files:

"Could not find the program 'kfind'"

So, where can I find kfind, and how can I install it?

Thanks for any help.

both apps you mention are not native of enlightenment desktop

both are kde apps

in enlightenment there is file browsers that doesn't require kfind that is another native app form kde desktop environment

pcman filemanager is one option

if you still want to use konqueror you can open synaptic package manager, update your install and then install kfind

Is there a way to integrate file search into the right mouse click menu or as part of the file browser menu??

Thank you for your replies. I am still unable to find kfind :-(

@Just18: There is no Find" under "Edit". There is "Tools/Find File", which gives the error I posted above - I need to find kfind somewhere.

@T6: There is no "kfind" in Synaptic.

Would appear that Dolphin is different on your install than mine so .....  maybe due to using E17 ?

Can you see the package

findutils

in Synaptic?

....  or maybe findwild  ?

I just installed pclinuxos-enlightenment.2010.12.

jschall,

I'm afraid you're going to have problems from that installation, no matter what. It's not the desktop that's the problem, it's that the iso you installed from is so far out of date. Unless you already know how to do it, just updating it will be impossible. Even if you do know how, it is still an "iffy" proposition. If you want the e17 desktop, here's what I'd do in your shoes.

Download and install the latest LXDE mini. (click on LXDE mini for the link) After installing it, open Synaptic. Click Reload, then Mark All Upgrades, then Apply. After that, find the task-enlightenment package. Mark it for installation and install it, along with all other packages it shows as dependencies. You can then install the "whole ball of wax" if you want by doing a search for e17 and marking all packages you want (especially the themes). Then do a search for enlightenment, and do the same.

After that, post back again with further questions. If you have the Places module on your e17 desktop, you can change it to open with any file manager you choose, as long as you have that file manager installed.

kfind is in synaptic, the package that contains it is called kdebase4-kfind

but it seems that it is part of kde4 and as i mentioned you are not using kde4, you need to install other parts of kde4 and since you are on e17 this doesn't seem to be the best option to me

Yes, it is. The file is dated 01-Jul-2011 18:47. Here's the problem. He installed from a December 2010 iso. The source list for repositories is not the same as the one we have now.

oh, i didn't read that part, sorry

yes, this installation is not viable now, it will end broken if he updates

it is necesary to download a new iso

since he is asking for kde apps, kde4 version is the best option here

you didn't read previous replies

if you used a old iso, you need a new iso with updated apps, kernel and many other details, change sources.lst won't be enough

OK, so how do I switch to Enlightenment as my Window Manager/Desktop?

I appreciate all this help.

At the login screen where you enter your username and password, click the Session button. Select Enlightenment (going by memory here, may be e17). Then enter your username and password. At the prompt, select whether you want e17 for just one session or as the new default.
