Did you recently update a Broadcom wireless driver? Open Synaptic. Click File > History. Go back through the last few days' update history to check.

Did you recently install aircrack, airfart or airsnort?

today a very strange thing happened... my wifi suddenly stopped connecting to networks...

You might have to reboot your modem.   In my area if you turn your
modem power off there's a good chance you'll have to reboot the modem,
because your dedicated line was temporarily lost.

If I leave my modem on the connection remains.  If I turn the modem
off and on everyday I sometimes lose my dedicated connection.

Then I have to call AT&T and go thru a lengthy procedure to reserve
the darn line again.   They actually recommend never turning the modem off.

I just get a screen on Firefox saying server not found tho the modem
says it's connected to something.   Something it doesn't recognize.

Might help might not.

My Fn F2 key turns the WiFi on and off, you didn't hit that by mistake ?

Open PCLinuxOS Control Center. Click Network & Internet in left pane, Remove a connection in right pane. Select your wireless connection as the Net Device. Next, etc., until connection has been deleted. Back in the Network & Internet section again, click Set up a new network interface. Set up the wireless connection again.

Tells us nothing. What "problem"? What was the error message? Should we keep guessing what you see?

wlan0 is up and it can scan for wireless networks, there doesnt seem to be any problem on the hardware or kernel.

The problem must be on the user level configuration tool

what does these command give you? ( you may want to remove any identifiable information before posting )

cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0

try to connect again and then run this command and give its output when the connection fail

tail -n 20 /var/log/syslog
