use something different than  .kde4.bak  for your personal backup so you can be sure it is the one you know you want  ;) .....  .kde.mybackup  or such

It appears that the prudent thing for most users who do not want to have their set up changed is to uninstall it immediately and be aware of its presence in the repo should they require it.

I couldn't express it better.  ;D

:(  :(

KDE 4.6.5
Attempt to remove  kde4-config results in the following marked for removal ...

kdebase4
audiokonverter

Removal of kdebase4  does not seems like a good idea .......

I didn't run into that problem as I have upgraded all my systems to KDE 4.8.3, were kdebase4 simply doesn't exist. audioconverter does, and was not removed when I uninstalled kde4-config on my 32 bit system.

Neither did I ....  but I posted to indicate that the package is actually installed as part of KDE 4.6.5 and cannot be removed until KDE is updated.

So the idea of removing it to prevent problems is not going to work until after the update  ;)

There is also a package called

restore-kde-desktop

which should do what is required if the original desktop has been changed.

Quote
Restore your latest kde-desktop settings
Restore your latest KDE-Desktop settings.
