maybe export the contents to CSV from wherever generated the .vcf files? Is that an option?

I believe Kontact can import .vcf files (Vcards).
Also for Thunderbird look at this addon:
http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
(I don't know its current state though, try it at your own risk
