Nvidia driver rollback <SOLVED>
« on: June 29, 2012, 11:33:02 AM »
Hi All,  the new nvidia driver, 302.17, doesn't seem to agree with my desktop suspend.  Neither the sleep in kmenu or s2ram will resume to the desktop.  The previous driver worked flawlessly for me... any suspend, any time.

The older driver isn't in the repo.  Any simple PCLOS approved way to rollback to the older driver?

TIA,

Dave

Ok  Using Synaptic I forced package to the older driver.  It also removed the dkms-current package.

When I rebooted, I got a message that I didn't have a proprietary driver and it would use Nouveau.  My xorg.conf reflects this.  Synaptic says I have the 290.10 driver installed.

Should I manually use the 290.10 driver by modifying my xorg?

OTOH, the nouveau driver seems to be doing it's job except for turning down my video card fan.

This is the way I always roll back the current nvidia drivers or for a backup (testing drivers).

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,99983.msg848686.html#msg848686

So you have to download the 290.10 drivers manually from a mirror and install with  rpm -uvh *rpm (as su)

Hi John,  I tried completely removing 290.10 using synaptic and installing it by your method.  Synaptic now shows I've got 290.10 again, but my xorg still points to Nouveau.

I tried manually changing the xorg file and got dumped to tty.  Now I'm back to nouveau.

It's a puzzle.

If you have the 290.10  (dkms and x11-driver) installed start PCC -> hardware-> configure video card
Click on nvidia geforce..... (nvidia 6100 ..)
Go to NVIDIA and select Geforce 6100 to Geforce 310
Then apply it with ok
It is asking reboot your system.

Maybe is blacklisting the Nouveau driver needed.

Thanks for the handholding.  :-)

Somehow I wasn't getting the dkms-current package installed.  I ended up using synaptic and forcing the 290.10 versions of both the driver and dkms in separate steps.

All is well.

Thanks,

Dave
