[solved]minor problem with HD install of newest LXDE
« on: June 27, 2012, 02:02:58 PM »
Greetings.  I am looking at my newly installed desktop, across the way from this ancient device, still running XP.

The new distro, LXDE, works, and installed without too much difficulty, but, the reason for my post here, is to alert folks to a small problem, which has been resolved, though not without 20 minutes of anxiety....

I never experienced this problem before, however, the hardware is "new",i.e. new to Linux.
bottom line:

now works, but, a real beginner, someone inexperienced with using the lovely control center, to adjust the video display, would have a heart attack....

The solution was to select Intel 810 and above, from the menu offered to the user, on rebooting....The actual video on this motherboard, is quite a bit newer than the ancient 810, but, nevertheless, everything works, at present.

On initial rebooting, after the install (very smooth), the screen was discolored, the resolution terrible, and the text almost illegible.  Everything was squashed together.  In short, it was only possible to gain access to the   PCLINUXOS control center, because I knew where it was, from past installations.  I could not read the text on the monitor.

I don't know if there are any other problems with this new distro, but, thought it worthwhile to pass along this bit, at the outset....

regards,
