after quitting while running, clicking the link (no matter if it's in the menu or if I create a new one somewhere else) does nothing (all other programs run OK).
I've had ff quitting all of a sudden many times before, but then I could restart it and have the session restored.
a complete restart of the PC didn't help either.

I'm on an up-to-date 2012.01 LXDE running as guest from a persistent USB (still sorting out harddisks for a definitive install).

anybody any suggestions (posting from epiphany now, but do prefer ff) for this newbie?

thx in advance,
wiko

had to REBOOT twice and FF restarted when I clicked the link that didn't respond before: so this thread is on hold until it happens again (which it will). therefore suggestions are still welcome!! thx in advance.

FF borked ha? Did you try to remove the whole thing FF (including the ./mozilla folder)  and do a re-install?

Edit: You might want to safe the folder ./mozilla/firefox/bookmarksbackup first.

There are new PCLinuxOS-LXDE-2012.06 iso's available ("regular" and "mini" ) so you could download and recreate a new USB install.

In Firefox do you have any/many add-ons installed? If you do mebbe try starting with them disabled.

Could also look at the "new" Firefox option on the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information.

The following link gives some info on the new stuff in Firefox 13

I've done a lot of tweaking, that will all be lost if I do a re-instal of PCLOS, so I would like to wait with this option.

Only add-ons are disable flash and vertical tabs.
can't start with them disabled, because ff doesn't start at all anymore (same for reset ff).

I save the bookmarks to .html after changes, so after a reinstall I can import them back.
but the session (windows+tabs) and passwords etc. are gone then, so I hope there is a way to get running again without such a drastic measure.

From a terminal:

firefox -safe-mode

You're running in persistent mode from a live USB? You won't lose your Firefox settings if you install from the LXDE 2012.06 iso. When you run the LiveUSB script, you can add that iso to what you already have.

Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

yes, persistent USB.
but I will loose my PCLOS-settings and tweaks if I do this?
