KDE Full Monty interface broken.
« on: June 23, 2012, 08:18:59 AM »
I booted up the computer earlier this week and found that My Full Monty was on a default PCLOS KDE interface.
I had not changed anything, I tried "Full Monty Widgets Setup", "FM/Default Layout switcher" and "restore KDE-Desktop" and nothing worked.

How can I get it back?

none of the fullmonty users mentioned the problem so i'm not sure if it works

this week we had a update that replaced the desktop with a basic version, the config folder with the original setup is still stored in your /home folder

in /home/thenameofyouruser/ you will find the folder .kde4

rename it to another name

in that same place you have will find a folder .kde4.bak, rename it to .kde4

that folder stores the previous config you were using, if you log out and log in, everything should return to previous state but i am not sure since you have fullmonty

if you don't find the .kde4.bak, mybe you don't have the same problem we had

There's a little more info about the update kde4-config-4.6.1-3pclos2012 in the following tread.
Update lost my KDE4 Customisation [Solved]

Important that you have to 'Show Hidden Files', to see .kde4, and .kde4.bak.

Rename .kde4 to something like .kde4 old, and .kde4.bak to .kde4; then Logout, and Log back in.

If as T6 said your problem is related to the update, after which many of us experienced a reset of Desktop features. Using MiniMe here.

Hello,
I have picked up this thread and this is exactly the same problem I have after an update last night running Full monty light on a pae kernel.
I tracked down the fault on the previous forum fixes and found this one.
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,106364 with a helpful fix.

I have looked for the .kde4 files the folders in the home folders and there is no .kde4.bak file in the home menu for the full monty user home folder.
The other user home folders that I have on a standard kde desktop contain the .kde.bak file.
This is strange, but as a newbie, i am now stuck............any suggestions gratefully accepted. ???
Thanks,

I managed to find the .kde4.bak file so I renamed it .kde on all accounts.
This fixed the desktop but now if I boot into the 3 series kernel x.org does not start automatically so I am left with a command prompt.

but you have two kernels?

what kernel 3.x did you installed?

usually when you end in console, there is a problem with video driver, you can stay in kernel 2 or try reconfigure video card in console with the command XFdrake in kernel 3
