kbuildsycoca4 going nuts since this mornings updates
« on: June 18, 2012, 08:29:16 AM »
See subject line, its fussing about:

kbuildsycoca4(20256) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry MimeType in "/root/.local/share/applications/wine-extension-jpeg.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon).

Fussing about the whole list, about 100 files I'd guess.  Some have the trailing semi-colon, some don't, but my adding it to a specific file doesn't seem to shutup the squawk about that particular file.

This is 'wall' blasting every open terminal I have, essentially rendering the machine ususable because it overwrites the contents on the screen, of any file you might have open in the editor, vim or gedit.

As this seems to run at about 2 minute intervals, I have to synchronize and get all of an edit done before kbuildsycoa4 restarts again.

I have a 15 day uptime, so I'll chance a reboot.

Cheers, Gene

Reboot=fail

I finally got in by adding single to the grub kernel line, and this is what I find in xsession-errors for every user I tried to log in as:
==
Kdeinit4: Symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libQTNetwork.so.4 (which is 4.8.2):
undefined symbol: SSLv2_server_method
kdeinit4: could not start kdeinit4: please check your installation
==
with that last line also being displayed in a white box at the upper left corner of the 'steel' screen backdrop.

I have ran apt-get update (after starting the network) but no fixes seem to be available.

So I am dead in the water and sinking, help!

I am not getting email on this machine, so I'll refresh occasionally.  This machine is a ubuntu-10-04 LTS like all my cnc machines, making it tempting to install on the big box.  There are so many things I can't do with pclos that just install and work on these much slower atom based machines.

Cheers & Thanks, Gene

It is with some regret that I announce, from that machine, that it now has ubuntu-10-04 LTS on it.  Sorry, in fact I don't really like how ubuntu does things.
But I need a machine that works.  I am slowly bringing it back to life.
Sorry if I contaminated somebody's cheerios, I didn't intend to, I just asked for help after an update that seemed to need a reboot, tried to reboot but not with a broken QT-4.8.2 library.

Thanks for the fish, Cheers, Gene

you could have used the pclinuxos installation image you used the first time when you installed pclinuxos.

I think the problem came from a not fully updated mirror. Change to a different mirror and update might have solved the problem.

I did keep trying to coax a fix out of apt-get while logged in as single, for about 9 hours, no change or update was offered.  Mirrors that haven't updated in 9 hours likely never will until someone does a little brogan maintenance.

The active lines of my sources.list were:

rpm http://ftp.vim.org/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/megagames/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 megagames
rpm http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games xfce4
rpm http://andrzejl.cyryl.net/ PCLinuxOS/REPO main updates nonfree kde4 games xfce4
rpm http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde4 games xfce4

I also don't appreciate my posts being edited.  It also seems to me that this thread, with 40 views, should have generated more than one reply.  Did I not use the correct format or have I upset TPTB somehow?

Cheers, Gene

You appear to have two standard official mirrors selected .....  Ibiblio & Heanet  :(  .....  and also a third one - andrzejl - the status of which I am unsure.

Multiple mirrors is almost guaranteed to bork the install!

Also, I see no indication of editing of one of your posts ....

My posts have been edited to remove the name of the distro I switched to.  That is NOT cool, in the same manner as Barnes and Noble doing a global search and replace of every instance of 'kindle' in War and Peace, changing it to knook.  And although we own a nook color, Barnes and Noble will never get a dollar from me.

There is paranoia, and there is PARANOIA, and its not at all becoming.

Bye!

Should you return you might get better results if you follow the procedures laid out for maintaining this distro.

Oh yes .....  no one edited your posts .....  the forum software replaced a word ......  happens to anyone who uses that word .....  also happens to other words too .......  similar result, but not an edit  ;)

Your posts were not edited; certain objectionable word are automatically excluded from all posts. If you paid as much attention to the postings of others, as you seem to think your particular postings should engender, you would already know that.

Your OP and first reply only told us a story, with nothing specific to work from, and your reply saying you'd installed something different added nothing of value either. When you finally posted real information, after the fact, it becomes readily apparent that you shot yourself in the foot, with the weapon on full automatic, and held the trigger until you ran out of ammunition. How is this our fault?  ???

Had you posted the real information in your OP rather than tell a story, we might have been able to offer some real help, but we can't help you if the source of your problem is not apparent, and we cannot reproduce, or understand it, for lack of accurate information.
