mtp is bad, yes but at least kies worked for you

yes, it should be simpler, and if you use a card reader and the micro sd card, it could be

No. After spending hours trying to configure it prior to the video I decided that since I had VB installed and it was probably a one time file transfer, take the quick way out and use VB which worked. If that method failed then I'd probably just stopped right there. As much as I hate Windows I hate the hoops one has to jump through getting some things to work on Linux. Win some lose some I guess.

i just read that they had to abandon usb mass storage protocol for some specific reasons, very valid specially for phones with non removable memory and this is why they adopted mtp, sad for us

while reading i found this solution, i hope it helps someone

http://airdroid.com/

i haven't used it but it says it is free and supposedly it supports ics 4 since december

so, i had a xperia mini with android 4 at hand and tried airdroid, it works very well but for some reason i can't use opera to log in, firefox works perfectly with it

it also offers to backup contacts and many other features

then i tried the solution on the video, it works very well too but no, it doesn't show up as a mounted device

anyway it lets me delete and copy files  :)

hope any of those two solutions are working for you Snapshot
