I see these same errors when trying to start Stellarium. The /usr/lib/egl/st_GL.so file does exist.

You are in bad luck, Darrel. It is not a broken app. Testers for 4.8.3, 4.8.97 and 4.9.0 have reported that KStars are working. So there is something in your install that crashes it.

Dang, you have an alternative LXDE and using KStars with KDE as well, aren't you? Then the answer/fault should be something on the LXDE install. Let's get to the bottom of this.

And just out of curiosity, I installed kde-edu-kstars-4.9.0 and it did not pull in anything that was not already on my install.

Believing I had missed somed forum activity on this, I went to the testers section and scrolled through all 14 pages. No kstars topics. I could have missed it. I did a search of "kstars" in the testing section. Nothing. I went to the main page of the forum and searched for "kstars" again. 1 page of results, but nothing about kstars 4.8.97 or 4.9.0.

And just out of curiosity, I installed kde-edu-kstars-4.9.0 and it did not pull in anything that was not already on my install.

I'm trying, but I fail to see what that has to do with my situation. I went in search of version 4.9.0. I enabled testing section of 32bit repo. No version 4.8.97 or 4.9.0. I enabled test section of 64bit repo. No version 4.8.97 or 4.9.0. Believing Synaptic to be in error, I pulled up http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributions/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/ in my web browser. I searched in 2010/kde and 2010/testing. No version 4.8.97 or 4.9.0. I searched in 2011/kde and 2011/test. No version 4.8.97 or 4.9.0.

Believing that ftp.nluug.nl repository may not be in sync with ibiblio, I went to http://distro.ibiblio.org/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/. Again, I searched in 2010/kde and 2010/testing. No version 4.8.97 or 4.9.0. Again, I searched in 2011/kde and 2011/test. No version 4.8.97 or 4.9.0.

It is the 32bit kstars, version 4.8.3-2 that I am running. Or, trying to. And, that's the only one I can find in the repos. What am I missing?

A few testers doing a preview testing before it's going testing section.

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,107911.0.html

They are testing via a local repository so it's not on ibiblio and the public mirrors.

I apologized that you misunderstood, Darrel.

There were and still are a group of testers pre-testing the KDE releases. KDE 4.8.3 was tested before it was added to testing and made available to testers. It was followed by the RC2 (aka 4.9.0) and this too is over. This group is now testing 4.9.0. They don't always post to the thread I set up and I received email reports from them. KStars is one of the the packages they tested and it got the "Passed" report (even back in 4.8.3). So I think it may be something in your combination of LXDE and KDE that is causing the crash and not the package itself as evident in the screenshot previously posted.

Now stellarium is a completely different matter. ghostbunny packaged and tested it and still gets a segfault. I've been quietly doing the same thing even with an upgrade to 0.11.3 and it builds without any error messages and it installs fine. The menu entry doesn't seem to work but that's a trivial issue.Tthe same error with libEGL. As I am sure ghostbunny is also looking around for a fix to this, I have also done my share of searching. I was even going to join its mailing list but I couldn't find where to subscribe.

I hope my explanation re KStars and Stellarium are satisfactory.

Have a good day. ;)

I'd like to test the assumption that my LXDE environment is the cause of the problem. I thought I'd install MiniMe in VirtualBox and install KStars there. I cannot download a MiniMe iso. None of the mirrors have either of the 32bit KDE isos.

Thanks for the link, JohnW_57. I see that you and menotu are testing KDE 4.9.0. What I cannot tell is if you guys are running 32bit or 64bit.

They're testing 32-bit. I have held off the builds on 64-bit ... I hate to even think that I am stuck with my 32-bit install and am itching to go back to 64 ... until the 64-bit ISO is finally announced and release. Darrel, if you are interested in testing, please take a look at this.

LOL nobody wants to take the test. It really is very easy ...

How'd you get it to work? I, for one, would be interested to know what the magic was.
