<Solved>New computer
« on: June 15, 2012, 11:01:45 PM »
Hi to all,
I hope this is the right place to ask????
I have a new computer replacing one that died.
32 bit PCLinuxOS works a treat, all but a few bits are found.
Networks well.
Any!!! 64 bit system fails, but in different ways
Failure mode:---
1... just will not install. hangs on reading CD/DVD
2....Can't be installed since no USB devices found, no KB or Mouse
3....Install but will not network!!
That is where I am now. 64 bit PCLOS installed
The on board network turned off and an Intel PCI network card fitted (1GBit) fitted.
Still will not network.
Neither will fed 17-64 or Mageia 2 64 nor Linux Mint 64.
The system:-----
ASUS M5A97 motherboard.
4 GB Corsair Ram.
AMD FX 4179 CPU. AM3+.
I have 32 and 64 bit PCLinuxOS installed on Corsair 60Gb SSD and data on a 2TB Hitachi drive,
I have also tried to install on a 500GB sata2 drive as well, but no go.
I am stumped!! any thoughts?

Get into the BIOS and see if UEFI is turned on. If it is, see if you can turn it off.

Hi djohnston ,
Many thank for returning,
I have since tried Ubuntu 12.04, which installed but again no internet although it is using DHCP and getting all the correct addresses..
Will turn of some of the more interesting bits.
By the way the the UEFI bios is a Linux bios.
