Hello,

Just wanted to share that after Synaptic update this morning on my netbook (see specs on my signature line), which I noticed included dkms-broadcom-wl.5_100_82_112-1pclos2012, my wireless (wi-fi) connection suddenly got lost. I restarted the netbook and still could not connect.

As a workaround, I used the same steps outlined by AS when I was in a similar situation:

Quote
please download the rpm from:
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/www.pclinuxos.com/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.nonfree/dkms-broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1pclos2010.i586.rpm

move it to a USB stick, reboot in linux and move it to some directory, say /tmp
open a terminal and type the following commands:

su
rpm -e dkms-broadcom-wl
rpm -ivh /tmp/dkms-broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1pclos2010.i586.rpm

Source: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,97443.msg891636.html#msg891636

After doing the above steps, I got my netbook's wireless internet connection back up. :)

Thank you.

Just to add:

I installed kernel 3.2.18 bfs, hoping it would make dkms-broadcom-wl.5_100_82_112-1pclos2012 help connect to wifi --- but it didn't. :(

I therefore removed 3.2.18 kernel and rolled back to dkms-broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36 -- connection was OK again.

To summarize:

3.2.18 bfs + dkms-broadcom-wl.5.100.82.112 = No wi-fi connection
3.2.18 bfs + dkms-broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36 = incompatible(?); no wi-fi connection
2.6.38.8 bfs + dkms-broadcom-wl.5.100.82.112 = No wi-fi connection
2.6.38.8 bfs + dkms-broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36 = OK

Thank you.

I had problems, too. Suddenly, the connection was lost. I managed to reconnect, but the first thing I did was downloading the previous version. It's ready to be installed, when/if the problem repeats. I had to same problem (getting disconnected) before this recent version was pulled out and replaced by the previous one. Seems it didn't get much better.

My kernel is 2.6.38.8-pclos3

Can you guys please test this combination kernel 3.2.18-2 and dkms-broadcom-wl.5_100_82_112:

Now start Synaptic, reload, search for b43. There are 3 packages starting with b43. None of them should be installed when using dkms-broadcom-wl.5_100_82. In case they are installed please uninstall them, then reboot and report back if the wlan works for kernel 3.2.18-2 and dkms-broadcom-wl.5_100_82_112.

thanks!

I did what you suggested by going in Synaptic & uninstalling b43 packages then rebooted the system. My broadcom bmc4314 wireless will not connect on boot I must go in to the Network Center and click on connect under the wireless tab in order to start the wireless connection. There is a check to start it on boot? under the configure tab. Before the new kernal3.2.18 & dkms-broadcom=wl.5_100_82_112 install I would have to sign in to configure your computer & remove the bmc4314 wireless connections then reboot for wireless to show up under the Network Center to connect again. I'm running PCLinuxOS  on a Acer Aspire One D255 Netbook. I will be going out later today to pick up a usb wireless adapter so I don't have to go thru this everytime I boot the system. droopy

Based on these instructions, here's what I did this morning:

1. Did a Synaptic update for everything EXCEPT dkms-broadcom-wl.5_100_82_112
2. After all downloads were completed and changes were applied, searched for kernel 3.2.18 bfs and marked for installation
3. Did not bother to search/click for installation of dkms-broadcom-wl.5_100_82_112 because kernel 3.2.18 requires it to be installed anyway
4. Clicked Apply > Apply and after all downloads were completed and changes were applied, searched for packages starting with b43 (there are only 3)
5. Marked all 3 packages starting with b43 for removal
6. Clicked Apply > Apply and after changes were applied, closed Synaptic and restarted the netbook
7. Upon reboot and loading of desktop.... wlan was connected automatically and internet connection was OK! :)

Many thanks, pinoc for the quick posting of solution. Hope this could help others as well. Marking this thread solved.

Cheers!

I'm going to give this a try tonight.:)  Thanks!  And glad I found it.:) (Only because in another thread CaptainSarcastic asked if I was using a broadcom card.  So, thanks to him, as well.)
