Printer packages missing.
« on: June 10, 2012, 09:45:43 AM »
I've just has to re-install LXDE after my much upgraded 2010 installation failed to boot (partition still available for plundering from another installation fortunately, so all my firefox and thunderbird data could be recovered easily) .  All went well except that there were no printer packages installed - the blurb says they ought to be there.  No serious problem once I had realised.

Is this something I've not done?  Or is it really missing from the iso?
How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

Use the forum search for it (there is a lot about printers).

Thanks both, but if you read me carefully you would see that I wasn't asking how to install the printer packages, that wasn't a problem once I had realised they were missing.

What I was asking was "Why does it say in the list of packages included on the download page that they are there when they are not?"

If I had installed them at the live CD stage would they be there in the permanent installation?

Interesting question, maybe i would generate a smaller Iso as before, and so i moved this packages.
Or i simple forgotten to add it  ;D.

Is it needed on an Iso?

In Neal's post about the differences between the full and mini ISOs it says that both have the printer package.  (After all who's likely to want a computer without a printer?)

Howard,
That post is now outdated. Printer packages are no longer included on the LXDE-Mini ISO.

It was the full one that I installed not the mini.  It must even more outdated than you thought.

I would say yes if it's intended to be a more or less fully functioning installation on a computer.

But since you admit you might have just forgotten it let's leave it at that - it's no big deal.

Then we will add it in the next Iso (full-lxde), again...

Positively my last post on the topic - I was only trying to point out a discrepancy , but it also has the same info here:

and that's more recent.
