Maximizing the panel in KDE
« on: June 07, 2012, 06:27:21 PM »
For some reason on my laptop KDE install I always have to maximize the panel ( it starts as being centered).

Is there a setting somewhere I can set to make the maximize setting stick or some script I can auto-run to set it? Currently it's a few clicks and some precision mousing to set it. Gotten old.

Panel Settings - More Settings - Maximise Panel ........  is that what you are currently setting?

in the settings of the taskbar that can be accessed after unlocking widgets in the taskbar by making right click/panel options/panel settings you will find a button called more settings

the button called maximize panel should do what you want, also be sure to keep the panel centered, sometimes when is set to left it behaves weird but maybe iti is just because i have it set to autohide

remember to lock again

if this doesn't help, you can delete the whole panel and recreate it, is very simple to do, just follow the previous steps and in the more settings click on remove this panel and accept

to create another you can go to desktop/right click/add panel/default panel

this creates a pannel ready with the basic configuration

you can also add a empty one and add widgets the same way i described

Yep. I tried locking widgets but that didn't work. Wasn't intuitive to me that the panel was a widget..

The larger problem and may the source of the issue is something I didn't  mention, namely that the screen resolution is always out of whack as well on start-up. This is a 24" LCD attached via a vga cable to a laptop. That setting doesn't stick either even though I ask it to Save Default.

I'll try deleting the panel and recreating it.

Panel Settings - More Settings - Maximise Panel ........  is that what you are currently setting?

dixonpete,
Is this a new install? In other words is this long-time behavior or did it start after an update or something?
I have the same issue, but it is from a liveUSB-kde, using persistence. It was created from minime-2012.02.iso.
I started a thread about it, & the consensus was that it could be from the minime liveusb. Was advised to try the full kde to check if the issue stuck. May give it a try.
