@linuxsnow
Try shelf plasmoid. It can do almost everything. Looks kinda ugly but still my favorite plasma applet ever ;-)

As there are a lot of task bar experts present, can I ask a question about the default time widget? Please excuse me if I should have started a new thread.

If I enable time and date I see that date seems to be a smaller font and set slightly lower than the time. There seems to be no adjustment in the Digital Clock Settings.

Is it meant to be like this?

Thanks.

Always been since the KDE4 release (it changes only with the size/height of the widget).
To get it bigger change the height of the panel.

yes, that particular widget behaves that way

there is other widgets to show hour and date and also you can try superkaramba or conky

I've at last got something very close to a mini menu.

I used a Home Folder widget, reconfigured but with a niggle or two. When right clicking on anything I put in this folder, the "Rename" function isn't working.

Also so if I put a sub-folder in this widget, the content of the sub-folder isn't previewed if I pause over it.

It won't work on panel.

You can try using "quick access" applet.

Its not on the widget selections bar that I can see.

linuxsnow, from looking at the Pic you uploaded, which is a 'Quick Launch Bar' from memory, ( very easily manipulated for Folders, or Executables, in Windows) - Back to PCLOS - you're maybe best off to just add the Apps you want to use often to 'Favourites', click on the far left hand 'Button' named PC, and there they are.

However you have so many other options now, my advice is probably much too simple  ;)
I'm not sure if the dynamic your after is speed, or ease of use, I'd say just about all options have been offered.

As a PCLinuxOS user with no dual boot, purely PCLinuxOS MiniMe, for over a year I've found the default functionality to be best for me, as I don't have to spend a week trying to put something back to default.

I suppose the old saying 'Linux isn't Windows' true, and of course it's fantastic to "play" with all options in the DE's of PCLinuxOS, there comes a time ... as you can see from the excitement the seasoned Users have embraced this thead, to accept one option and move on.
I'm not saying to stop experimenting, or asking questions, that would be treasonable  :D
