Putting aside the order in which the icons display in the tray, I have found no method of adding an item of my choice to the tray.
Some applications appear to provide a means to do so, but most do not apparently.

If you want to do this, try kdocker. It works.

Thanks ...  will have a look  ;)

In some cases you can simply tick "Place in the system tray" in the KDE menu editor.

In some cases you don't have to. E.g. a Skype icon will get there anyway.

But in the Skype settings you can keep it from opening a window on the desktop by ticking "Start Skype minimized in the system tray".

And of course you can to some extent adjust what is shown in the systray settings dialogue.

But I thought this thread was actually about moving the whole tray, not the icons within it....

Also note that starting an application with ksystraycmd will usually place its icon in the system tray. Try:

Code: [Select]
ksystraycmd kwrite
For a list of available options run

Code: [Select]
ksystraycmd --help

if you add folder view to the taskbar it creates a button, when you click on it, it shows a list similar to that one but linked to your home folder but you can edit it to show another folder

when you click on one of the folders listed, it calls dolphin and browse the folder selected

is that what you want?

try QuickAccess widget from the repo. I guess it might be what you're looking for. If you want pinks to the most different places, well create a folder with links to those places and set QuickAccess to open this folder on start.

EDIT: the QuickAccess Widget also lets you navigate deeper from your starting point. Don't know though if links will be opened in Dolphin.

Using the favorites in the menu (you might need to change it to Kicker style) might also solve your task

I am very confused with this thread. What exactly are we trying to accomplish here? Launch apps from the panel? Add icons on the systray? Application shortcuts on the taskbar?

One more alternative...   ::)
-  Right-click on desktop and select Unlock Widgets.
-  On the Menu, right-click on desired app, select Add to Panel.
-  When done, right-click on desktop and Lock Widgets.

Note: As I use Smooth-Task, I'm not sure if this would work with the normal taskbar.
