track ball mouse or touch pad random mouse cursor freezes(Solved)

I have noticed lately and more frequently that my mouse cursor with pause all of a sudden in any application , or desktop, or desktop manager. Has anyone experience this problem? I am using the most recent updates from the membership repositories and my lap top is a Asus U53F. I have tried using the lxde and kde4 managers and get the same problem.

what kernel are you using?  uname -r in konsole, post results

not sure what video driver is using that intel gma, can you verify it on pcc?

That kernel is very old. Is your system fully up to date? What are the results of:

rpm --version
apt-get --version

that is the original kernel that pclinux 2010 had

it is time to update it

open synaptic and write kernel, form the results search for kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs

select it and install it, it will add another package, apply

after that restart the machine, in the boot menu you will find the new option with the new kernel, select it and press enter, the boot process will take some minutes, alot longer than the normal boot time but be patient, this is normal for each new kernel you install and run

after you reach desktop, do some tests and see if that solves the random freeze of the cursor

if this is the case, then you cna set the new kernel to be the default option to boot

if the random freeze keeps happening we will need to see what apps are running at the moment of the freeze happens, on konsole write top

Once the new kernel has been installed, it becomes the default option in the GRUB boot menu. On reboot, if he selects the Linux label at the top of the list, he will be booting the newly installed kernel.

Thanks, kever. Just wanted to make sure everything else is up to date. Follow T6's instructions for installing a newer kernel. When you reboot, it will be the default kernel loaded. Your older 2.6.33.5 kernel will be listed as an extra entry in the GRUB boot menu, should you want to fall back to that one.

great news

if you want to make the new kernel the default all you have to do is open pcc/boot/setup boot system/click on the next button

on that menu it will be listed the options to boot including windows if you dualboot

select the kernel is working well for you and click on modify and mark the default option, click on ok and then on finish

if you see the pc works well with the new kernel you can remove the old 2.6.33 by opening synaptic and marking that to remove but this is not necessary, you can have many kernels installed without problems

don't forget to mark this as (SOLVED)
