mouse hanging --- using xfce 4 Phoenix
« on: June 03, 2012, 02:36:36 PM »
I have a Samsung nc10 Netbook with 2 gig of memory, and a Intel flash hard drive.

the PClinuxOS lxde doesn't have all the stuff I am capable of using, so I installed PClinux xfce phoenix --- cool --- totally happy with that.

Just so you know, I actually installed every single lxde and xfce flavor out there and PClinuxOS xfce Phoenix is by "way far" better than all the rest.

I am having a problem with  a Microsoft Wireless Mobil Mouse. It is hanging. (It didn't hang on my KDE box) I don't know why. I've done the following...

1. Changed the battery.
2. played around the xfce 4 settings > mouse and touchpad settings. --- all seem to be okay
3. Tried a different mouse. It works, but here's the thing, the mouse that was hanging, works great on a windows machine. Would this be a driver issue?

***Oops.. now this other mouse is hanging. It must be a software issue with xfce.....

Does anyone else know what I can do or should do?

Go to settings->Windows Manager Tweaks->compositor.  Uncheck "enable display compositing" then reboot.  See if that helps.

You didn't go into much detail about how the mouse was behaving.

What do you mean by "Hanging"? Is the mouse not tracking your movements?

We are not very concerned with what you think is the best desktop nor how things work in Windows.

Take some "Canned Air" and blow out the optical holes (just aim the air into the hole in the bottom of the mouses and blow) just to make sure you don't have some dust causing problems.

My experience has been that this causes the symptoms you are describing quite often.

It's always my first step when experiencing similar issues.  ;)

Good luck.  ;D
