PAN and Usenet not auto for new messages
« on: June 01, 2012, 01:59:26 PM »
Hi,

Have PAN installed and set to receive new posts when
entering a usenet newsgroup for reading.   Well it doesn't.
Ran it in terminal for awhile and absolutely no info appeared,
just PAN running in terminal.

Reinstalled and reconfigured it and no auto receiving new
posts occured.  Before I scout around on the PAN website...
has anyway a similar experience ?     Possible solution ?

Same here, but I haven't signed up for any groups yet. Have you? And, what news server are you connecting to?

Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

I use it every day and it is working fine here. For the subscribed groups I have "Get new headers when entering group" enabled in Preferences -> Behaviour.  Maybe for the group you are trying there are no new headers.

As previous, try Groups -> Refresh Group List. That should tell if you are connecting to the server.

Even if you have not subscribed to a newsgroup, clicking on one in the "Other Groups" list should come up with a dialog. You can get the same dialog with a right click -> Get Headers.

Hmm...not much activity there...

Edit: Another thought, sort the posts by date (descending) otherwise replies and new posts might get lost in the throng, if sorted by article.  The number of posts after the group name should change though when new posts are received.

thanks for the responses.

Might be a false alarm as it has started doing it, probably the
failed attempts were the news servers down temporarily or
just full temporarily.   Odd as when I got headers manually
it downloaded the new ones.

Servers ?

news.aioe.org
news.eternal-september.org    (keeps messages longer)

Newsgroups ?

comp.os.linux.advocacy    (huge group, check my spelling)
