what does "trashed" mean? What do you mean by "keeps failing"? Without details nobody will be able to understand or help you. What did you do and what happened?

I don't know what the script is doing. I didn't write it. Trashed means it didn't work any more. did you read that it is no longer installed and the getvirtualbox script that comes from the repo keeps failing. That is all the error says. Install failed! You can't be serious that you didn't understand my first post.

You are there, we are here. You can see your computer, we can't. What did you do? Only you can describe it. Writing that its thrashed, no longer installed and script is failing doesn't really give much to go on.

It's like saying, "you can fix it by doing this, this and that." We need information to help you out. SAVVY?

stealth,
I wrote the script and I know what it does, ok? Don't tell me I don't understand if you just provide no info.
Now, reboot, then open a terminal, and enter "getvirtualbox" and then you tell me what is written in this terminal
-p.

sorry, I was frustrated.

I don't know what to tell you but the getvirtualbox script has an icon that can be clicked with the mouse. Do you want to install virtualbox? yes. It runs says it found an old version can it be uninstalled? yes. Then it starts doing the uninstall and then the download when it does all that properly its says it is finished. If it doesn't run properly it says it failed. Beyond that it doesn't tell you step by step exactly what it is doing. Or why it failed if it did fail.

but this is all mute now because I tried it one more time to be able to come back and tell you what I did and what happened. this time it worked. I don't know why it didn't work the last several times even after a reboot and why it did work this time. I didn't do anything different because it gives very limited options. Yes or no are your only options. There are only two questions You can't do much there. But it did work. My virtualbox is running again. I'm happy

Can I suggest that you provide more details in the script so it is a lot easier to see what it is doing so we can give you more information and it says Failed at the end of the script, if it does fail? Also you provided an icon to click so how was I supposed to know I could also go to the shell and type getvirtualbox. Yes I know you can launch things from the shell but sometimes you have to type something different than what you might think so unless I know that is I just click the icon if it is provided. So if you improve the script to give more feedback I will provide more information if the need comes up again.

well, good to hear it worked. EVERY program is launched from a terminal, the icon on the desktop is just a shortcut to the respective command to be excited in a terminal. If you enter the command in the terminal then you will get more feedback, things which usually are not of interest if the application works fine. Anyway, the script provides sufficient feedback, it tells you if an older version was found, and if so that it will be uninstalled; that the new version of VB is downloaded, that it is installed, that kernel modules are built,  and that you must REBOOT so the new kernel modules can load properly. All this info is provided in the pop-up windows. That is all the info you need and there is no more info that could be provided anyway.
regards,
-p.

You are absolutely correct. If the script runs properly I don't care what it is doing or what information it provides. I am happy that it worked and I can get on with what I am doing.

I did not do this script, so I do not know
This bar is from zenity?
the window "VirtualBox is now installed." is from zenity?

I have 2.32.1-3pclos2011  5174kB
Call GNOME dialog boxes from the command line
Zenity allows you to display dialog boxes from the commandline and shell
scripts.

# 1) run the VBox installer
________
Have a question
it is possible to have virtualbox 4.1 and 4.2 ?
I'm ask because
Quote
Important point : I discourage the use of VirtualBox 4.2 for the moment, it seems many of us get very poor performance using buildroid/androVM images on this version. I’m investigating it…
So,
I want use 4.1 when I have lag,
and 4.2 when not will working images.
