I was not crazy about it--I like WordPerfect.

Same  here.  Wonder what it would take to get Corel to bring back the Linux version of WordPerfect?

It was discontinued after WordPerfect 8.

Somewhat OT--reply to Pinoc:  I never knew anything about FullMonty until I followed your thread.  I definitely would not want multiple screens, so I guess I wouldn't want FM,
but I wonder why the programs available in FM are not in the regular repos?  Before I go "outside" to install something I always check the repos, and if I had found SoftMaker,
I would certainly have installed the pclos edition.  I suppose it is instructive that at least one other replyer here did not know anything about SoftMaker--perhaps if it were
in the "standard" repo, he would have searched for office suite, or word processor, and found it--as I might have.

dougmack  LO has been updated frequently I had an old version because I didn't know that I had to run LO manager each time to get the last version  ???

It has rough spots and many are old but that's LO developers fault.

Anyway, I choose to use it less, in this years reading the forum I've get some skills and is my choice to install another software. If it breaks I will scream but I won't be surprised if nobody answer  ;D

An update to LOManager was sent to the repositories yesterday. :) This goes with the update that the LibreOffice people released. As said previously, LOManager is kept up-to-date.

Only those programs that can not be included in our repository are not in it. SoftMaker Office is not released under any type of free/libre license and therefore can not be included. There is no "PCLinuxOS Edition" of SoftMaker Office. Due to its licensing, it can only be downloaded from their website, and you can only get the older version that they give out for free.
Their installer uses your /home/<you>/ in its installation, instead of /. This puts you in a "gray area" so far as installing from outside goes. You're responsible but some help may be available.

I promised some test results.  I haven't been able to test SoftMaker TextMaker in actual use, but I decided to put all the word processors I have access to to a simple test: smart quotes.  These are all
the latest editions of the software, all free except WordPerfect.  (Note that there are paid editions of SoftMaker, and they may work better.) Typeface was Times-Roman--standard in all. I input this sentence,
after enabling Smart Quotes if the capability was available:

"Hello, test," I said, after sawing the 4' board.  I think I cut it 2" too short.  It's too bad I can't glue it.

The open and close quotes around the first two words should be curly quotes. The "inch marks" after both board dimensions, should be straight up-and-down marks.  The apostrophes in the last
sentence should be curly.  Here's what I got:

OpenOffice: Curly around Hello test. Straight after 4. Curly after 2. Straight apostrophes.
LibreOffice:  Curly around Hello test. Straight after 4. Curly after 2. Straight apostrophes.
Lotus Symphony: All curly.
TextMaker: All curly.
KingSoft (free) (No Linux edition; Windows 7): All straight. (There did not appear to be an option for smart quotes, or if there is, I couldn't find it.)
WordPerfect (No Linux edition, currently; Windows 7): All correct, as stated in the beginning.

This is not exhaustive; I didn't try quotes within quotes, where the opening and closing should be double curly, and the interior should be single curly. There are a few other less often seen things; I would
expect WordPerfect to get it right. Among the others, I will have to prefer Symphony or TextMaker as the least objectionable. In Windows, there is no question.  When I have more comparisons to share,
I will do so. As the editor of a small circulation (~1000) newsletter, and a several-times published author in larger publications, I'm fussy about these things. When I have more to share, based on whole bodies
of text, which I will have, I will come back and report.

It's very easy to set up LibreOffice to behave like Symphony. Why it isn't the default I do not comprehend. Apostrophes and single quotes must be a lot more common than minute/foot characters.

Ah, now I know what you guys are referring to.  And yes, that is some awfully annoying default behavior by LO.

And Open Office will hopefully not last much longer.  It has no point, and I am honestly stunned the Apache Foundation accepted it.

Reply to BaldBrick:  So how to make LO work like Symphony? Hopefully without the glitches.  I suppose it's way too much to make it LOOK like Symphony.

"Tools" -> "AutoCorrect Options..." -> "Localized Options" -> "Single quotes" -> "Start quote" (click button and choose opening quote) -> "End quote" (click button and chose end quote).

Or:

"Format" -> "Auto Correct" -> "AutoCorrect Options..." -> "Localized Options" -> "Single quotes" -> "Start quote" (click button and choose opening quote) -> "End quote" (click button and chose end quote).

And yes, Symphony is prettier.

But they can both automatically choose the right kinds of quotes for the language you're writing in.
