[Moved] updater wants to install texlive!
« on: May 28, 2012, 03:58:55 PM »
Hi all,
I am using PCLOS, and today, when the update notifier notified me of new updates, after running synaptic I noticed that it is trying to install "texlive"! I do not use any TEX system on this machine, and as far as I remember, nothing related to TEX is installed on this OS. Does anybody have the same problem? Is there anyway to find out what is happening?

thanks.

Please open Synaptic. See if you have apt-sources-list package installed. If not, install it. Then do a full Reload in Synaptic.

Hi djohnston. It was not installed indeed. I installed it, and did a reload (I hope it is enough: I cosed synaptic, then opened it and clicked on Reload button), but still when I click on "mark all upgrades" it wants to install texlive along with other packages.

No texlive!!! It seems it is a synaptic problem.

Upgrading with Synaptic is equivalent to running apt-get dist-upgrade, not apt-get upgrade. dist-upgrade and upgrade do not handle dependencies in the same way. (And if you use apt-get, run it with the command dist-upgrade. Running it with plain upgrade will sooner or later break your PCLinuxOS setup.)

Thanks. OK, now when I try to remove jadetex, synaptic wants to remove these packages aswell:

docbook-utils
gtk-doc
libxfce4util-devel
xfce4-panel
xfce4-panel-devel
xfce4-power-manager

Yesterday I installed xfce4 power manager and it brought a huge number of packages with it! (see http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,105864.msg904378.html#msg904378). I need to figure out what is hapenning with xfce4-power-manager.

Thanks everybody.

OK, now I am stock in this! PCLOS does not allow me to have xfce4-power-manager without jadetex! I need the power manager, and jadetex being installed synaptic wants to fetch texlive!!! Honestly, I am confused.

Do you want full function? Install dependencies. And let synaptic install the dependencies of those dependencies.

Neal, I was asking another question about xfce4-power-manager dependencies in another thread. It turned out that I made a mistake when I installed the OS. djohnston gave me some instructions to reinstall. I will follow them, and will update this thread.
Many thanks.
